Shir Shalom hosts its 12th annual Food, Fun & Fireworks event.

emple Shir Shalom celebrated
the 12th anniversary of its
Food, Fun & Fireworks event
on Aug. 15 on its campus in West
Bloomfield. More than 600 attended
the event for an evening loaded with
family fun, food tastings from more
than 30 area restaurants and caterers,
games and a spectacular fireworks
display provided once again by Shir
Shalom member Les Gold. The rain
stayed away until the fireworks ended.
Over the past year, Shir Shalom
developed a partnership with
Coleman A. Young Elementary School
in Northwest Detroit, where several
members work and volunteer. The
Shir Shalom Youth Group hosted a
game day at the school in January for
the school community, and families
from the school were invited to Food,
Fun & Fireworks this year. Temple
members are looking forward to con-
tinuing the partnership.
“We host this event every year
at about the same time, the third
Monday of August. We really enjoy
having the community join us to cel-
ebrate Shir Shalom,” said Executive
Director Andre Douville.
