More than 600 attended the event for an evening loaded with family fun, food tastings from more than 30 area restaurants and caterers, games and a spectacular fireworks display provided once again by Shir Shalom member Les Gold. The rain stayed away until the fireworks ended. Over the past year, Shir Shalom developed a partnership with Coleman A. Young Elementary School in Northwest Detroit, where several members work and volunteer. The Shir Shalom Youth Group hosted a game day at the school in January for the school community, and families from the school were invited to Food, Fun & Fireworks this year. Temple members are looking forward to con- tinuing the partnership. “We host this event every year at about the same time, the third Monday of August. We really enjoy having the community join us to cel- ebrate Shir Shalom,” said Executive Director Andre Douville. 26 September 1 • 2016 IDF (Res.) Staff Sgt.
