Kozlowski 96th
M
arvin Kozlowski of West Bloomfield
will celebrate his 96th birthday on
April 26. He will share this special
milestone with his adoring wife of 66 years, Edith;
his devoted children, Jay (the late Linda), Renee,
Ruthie, Joe and Jill; and his grandchildren, Rachel,
Anna and Bryan, David, Julia, Max and Ben, each
of whom considers him a hero. Born in Radom,
Poland, in 1920, Marvin was forced to endure the
hardships of the Holocaust as he moved from one
work camp to the next. Despite the fact that he was
subjected to such horror, his zest for life and his
unbelievably positive outlook have never wavered.
None who know him can deny how loving and car-
ing he truly is. He has a special way of bestowing
his kindness and generosity upon his kids, grand-
kids and all who meet him. Marvin is truly an inspiration, and his family looks
forward to celebrating together this occasion and many more.

At What Age Can People Have Orthodontic Treatment?
The biological process involved in moving teeth is the same at any age.
Children and adults can both benefit from orthodontics. The American
Association of Orthodontics recommends that children have an exam at
age 7 so that severe problems can be diagnosed early. Most kids, however,
begin full or comprehensive orthodontics between ages 10 and 14 when
the majority of permanent teeth are erupted. It is often beneficial to assist
the final permanent teeth in coming into their ideal arrangement by space
planning. Treatment in adolescents is also dynamic because facial growth
influences the position of the teeth and jaws - which usually enhances
the treatment out come. Because an adult’s facial bones are no longer
growing, certain corrections may not be accomplished with braces alone.
What Causes Orthodontic Problems?
An orthodontic problem is called a malocclusion, meaning “bad bite”.
Some examples of causes of malocclusion are crowded teeth, extra teeth,
improperly positioned teeth, eruption or sequence of eruption that is
unfavorable, missing teeth, or jaws that are out of alignment.
Most malocclusions are inherited, although some can be acquired.
Acquired malocclusions can be caused by accidents, early or late loss of
baby teeth, or sucking of the thumb or fingers for a prolonged period of
time. Inherited problems may be a combination of one parent’s teeth, the
other parent’s jaw size and even a grandparent’s relations of upper and
lower jaws.
