Shandling and Seinfeld

department of a vending company. Karen,
a service rep (Naomi Watts), is taken by his
letters. She and Davis form an unlikely con-
nection and Davis begins to rebuild his life.

GARRY SHANDLING

I can’t add much to the extensive coverage
of Garry Shandling’s death on March 24,
age 66. I can urge you to watch the Jan.
16, 2016, episode of Comedians in Cars
Getting Coffee, eerily titled, “It’s Great That
Garry Shandling Is Still Alive.” I watched it
a couple of months ago, and I found the
episode funny, touching and very Jewish.
I viewed it again the day Shandling died,
and it is now a remarkably intimate (if
sometimes sad) tribute to Shandling’s life.
Shandling and host Jerry Seinfeld, 62, dis-

cussed their parallel careers and visit many
of their old haunts, like a famous comedy
club. (I won’t spoil the Jewish moments
by reciting them here.) The series is on
Crackle, which is a free website. Crackle
(and this episode) can also be accessed, for
free, on Roku and other streaming devices.

SPORTS SHORT

Here’s a tip of the cap to Gabe Berman,
21, a pitcher with Division I Western
Michigan University and a Bloomfield Hills
native. Now starting his senior year, he
went 5-3 last season while only working
in relief. He holds the Western Michigan
record for career saves.
