MIX IT UP

res 12/9/2015

An a cappella group can go far with a
thumping beatbox and a Jewish identity:
Six13, a six-man vocal band, will perform
two high-energy and unique perform-
ances of everything from hip-hop dance to
favorite rock anthems — maybe even their
hit viral Passover version of Idina Menzel's
"Let It Go"— at Congregation Shaarey
Zedek in Southfield. At 8 p.m. Saturday,
Dec. 5, Six13 Mixology and Music for
the grown-ups will include a light sup-
per, specialty drinks, mixology workshop
($25-$35). Bring the kids the next morn-
ing, 11 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, for a Six13
Family Chanukah Concert ($3-$6), also at
Shaarey Zedek. Co-sponsored by JFamily,
Young Israel of Southfield and PJ Library.

the show's scripts, "This is great to see

MUSIC NOTES

Last July, I reported that Rachel Platten,
34, had broken out as a star with her femi-
nist empowerment song,"Fight Song,"
which was then near the top of the charts.
Since then, "Fight Song" has gone on to

sell more than 2 million downloads. Her
follow up single,"Stand By You," released
in September and promoted by almost-
BFF Taylor Swift, is doing very well. Her
big-time success continues today as she
appears as one of the musical guests
featured during the Macy's Thanksgiving
Day Parade (NBC). Look for her on a float,
where she'll perform mostly new material.
(If you miss the live broadcast, check NBC
on-line/YouTube).
Actress Hailee Steinfeld, 18, has
just released her first EP, called Haiz.
Entertainment Weekly praised it, writ-
ing:"She has some true hits on this EP
of dance floor bangers about getting
together, falling apart and feelin' her-
self!' *
