of the biblical verse "I shall not die, but live,
and recount the deeds of God" from Psalms

118:17.

use Roberg did much of the design of the
new stained glass windows at Young Israel
of Oak Park, working with artist Michelle
Sider, who recalls, "She was a wonderful
partner. She made sure every detail was
perfect. All the Hebrew lettering, not just
the lettering, but the specific font, was her
own. She had a beautiful style:'
Two weeks ago, Ilse Roberg completed
her final project, the invitation to a great-
granddaughter's wedding forthcoming in
December.
People who knew Ilse Roberg describe
her graciousness, her dignity, integrity,
goodness and her sly sense of humor. She
was a role model in her commitment to
doing what needed to be done exactly right
and not accepting anything less.
The Robergs knew many people who,
like them, had grown up in Nazi Germany.
Once a friend saw one of Ilse Roberg's
needlepoint settings of a biblical verse,
and said, "That was the last thing my
mother said to me when she put me on the

Ilse Roberg is survived by her chil-
dren, Esther (and Rabbi Fred) Pfeiffer of
Montreal, Leah (and Reuven) Gluck of
Chicago, and Ezra (and Naomi) Roberg
of Oak Park; many grandchildren, great-
grandchildren and great-great-grandchil-
dren; and sister, Ruth Hirtenstein.
Mrs. Roberg was the beloved wife of the
late Alex Roberg; the cherished sister and
sister-in-law of the late Rolf and late Maria
Hertz, and the late Bondi Hirtenstein.
Mrs. Roberg used to marvel, "not that
I am a great-great-grandmother, but that
my grandchildren have grandchildren:'
Her son, Ezra, says that this family, at least,
"beat Hitler:'
Interment was at Beth Tefilo Emanuel

Mrs. Levine was the beloved wife of

the loving sister of the late Myron
Schefman; the dear sister-in-law of the
late Leslie Schmier, the late Marvin
Rissman, the late Shirley and the late
Irving Rosenthal, and the late Lillian
Goldhaber Peskin.
