A Novel
Based on a true story, Even in Darkness
traces the life of Klare Kohler, a German Jew
who resisted the Nazis in her own passion-
ate and daring way. Impossible to put down,
this is the story of a woman who imagines
she can hide from the approaching danger
— and the surprising turns her life is about
to take.

box of old letters. It bore the words:
"Correspondence: Patients A-G." Sarah
Wildman opened the file, which had
belonged to her late grandfather, and
came across a curious set of letters from
"Valy." Who was Valy? This one question
took Wildman on a search that lasted for
years, spanned continents and resulted in a
remarkable revelation.

Dina Gold: Stolen Legacy: Nazi Theft and

the Quest for Justice at Krausenstrasse
17/18, Berlin
In 1910, a Jewish family named Wolff built
a large building at Krausenstrasse 17/18 in
Berlin.

BI

For many years, it served as
one of the city's most success-
ful fur stores. Then in 1937, the
business was forced into foreclo-
sure by the Victoria Insurance
Company and ownership was
transferred to the Reichsbahn,
which transported millions of
Jews to their deaths.
After the war, the insurance
company retained ownership of
Krausenstrasse 17/18 and likely
would have continued to do so
were it not for Dina Gold.

Rita Gabis: A Guest at the Shooter's

Banquet: My Grandfather's SS Past, My
Jewish Family, a Search for the Truth ($10)
When Rita Gabis was little, she was
enthralled by her grandfather's stories of
bravery during WWII, of fighting to save his
beloved Lithuania.
As an adult, Rita learned that her grand-
father had quite a different responsibility
than saving Lithuania. In fact, he was chief
of the security police under the Gestapo in
Svencionys near the killing fields of Poligon,
where 8,000 Jews were murdered. *
