MICHAEL DAVID NORMAN, 69, of
Southfield, died July 3, 2015.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio, to
Lawrence and Estelle Norman and grew
up in Grand Rapids. Michael graduated
with a degree in broadcast journalism from
Michigan State University and lived in
Okemos, where he was a successful owner
of a book distribution company.
For the past 25 years, Mr. Norman
lived in Southfield and owned a food and
book distributorship. In his spare time, he
enjoyed going to garage sales on the week-
ends, going to Starbucks and talking with
his friends about history, current events
and sports - especially the Detroit Tigers.
He was interested in his Jewish heritage
and family genealogy. He played the lottery
daily and enjoyed betting on everything
from the Academy Awards to Sunday foot-
ball games.
Mr. Norman is remembered by many
friends and family as very creative, loyal,
caring, a great listener and always true to
his own beliefs. One of his favorite quotes
was by Machiavelli ... "A truly great man is
ever the same under all circumstances; and
if his fortune varies, exalting him at one
moment and oppressing him at another, he
himself never varies, but always preserves
a firm courage, which is so closely inter-
woven with his character that everyone can
readily see that the fickleness of fortune
has no power over him:'
Michael Norman was a great father,
devoted to Michele Angela Norman. He is
also survived by his three brothers, Howard
Norman (Jane Shore), Steven Norman and
Dr. Robert Norman (Carol Norman); niec-
es, nephews, cousins and loving friends.
Arrangements by Ira Kaufman Chapel.
