Jewish Bar Association Meets The Judger

T

he Jewish Bar Association
of Michigan held its annual
dinner and reception for the
judiciary May 18 at the Westin Hotel
in Southfield. JBAM's successful inau-
gural dinner attracted more than 150
people.
The highlight of the event was the
keynote speech by Richard Bernstein,
the state's first blind Supreme Court

justice. Other judges elected or
appointed within the last two years
were also honored.
Justice Bernstein talked about over-
coming adversity and how Judaism
has played a role in his life and judicial
career.
JBAM president Rachel Loebl said,
"We were so grateful to have Justice
Bernstein as our speaker — and very

IT IS TIME TO ACT!

Do I need an Estate
Plan in my 30's?

Members of the judiciary and the JBAM board present at the dinner included, left to right, Judges Michael Warren,
Katherine Hansen, T. David Law, Michael Gadola and David Perkins; State Bar of Michigan President Thomas
Rombach; Jonathan Schwartz; Judge James Wittenberg; Stan Bershad and Andrew Cohen; Michigan Supreme Court
Justice Richard Bernstein; Frank Mamet; Judge Kathryn George; Keith Sirlin; Adam Berman; JBAM President Rachel
Loebl; Judges Joseph Slaven and Shannon Walker; Ellie Mosko; and Judge Mark Randon.

As soon as you are married or
have children you absolutely
need an estate plan. If a disaster
occurs and both parents pass
away, it's critical that a guardianship
appointment was made for your children
in your will. You need to decide who will
care for you children; not the Probate
judge. Also, once married, you begin to
accumulate assets (unfortunately debt,
as well) and you need to be sure they are
passed on as you desire upon death.

Is an Estate Plan
expensive?

No, a complete Estate Plan is
less than the cost of most
55" Smart TVs. A complete
plan includes a Revocable
Living Trust, Pour Over Will, Power
of Attorney and Healthcare Power of
Attorney for husband and wife. At Thav
Gross - we will let you pay for it over
time, if needed. It's an essential item
that you have - and we make sure it is
affordable. Better yet - Parents and Grand
Parents - an Estate Plan for your children
and grandchildren makes a terrific present!
