It's Time To Stand Up To
Anti-Israel Campus Bullies
College student and pro-Israel advo-
cate Chloe Valdary gave an inspir-
ing presentation at Congregation
Beth Shalom on April 24. She had
an important message for our Jewish
community. After sharing her story
about how and why she came to
embrace Zionism, she gave the audi-
ence necessary advice on how to com-
bat the current anti-Semitism, (dis-
honestly rebranded as anti-Zionism)
based on her own experiences.
Valdary compared the Jewish
struggle against oppression to the
Civil Rights Movement. She told the
story of Frederick Douglas' successful
fight against a slave master who tried
but failed to break him, which raised
Douglas up from slavery to manhood.
We know that our children are bul-
lied on university campuses by various
Israel/Jew-hating student organizations.
Our children need the tools, including
self-pride and knowledge of their his-
tory, in order to raise themselves up
from scared victim to proud Jews.
We Jews have an amazing 3,500-
year history. We've outlasted (as
Valdary pointed out) great civiliza-
tions and mighty empires that tried
to destroy us. We've made important
contributions to humanity. And yet we
apologize for our success. We excuse
our tormentors and sometimes even
embrace their anti-Semitic lies (the
biggest lie being that Jews are not
indigenous to Israel — yes we are) and
side with them.
We are no longer powerless wan-
derers, but until we express the con-
fidence of our history, our contribu-
tions, and our one Jewish nation that
was recreated out of barren desert and
malarial swamps, and stop tolerating
the abuse, we will always be bullied.
We've raised our children to be
polite and fair. Some people see that as
weakness. It's time for them to learn
how to stand up against the bullies.
That is only some of what we
learned from Chloe Valdary.

Sammys Were Wrong On
Vandalism And Aftermath
I am writing in response to letter con-
cerning the April 2 Arthur Horwitz
column about the Sammys' riot-
ous behavior in northern Michigan
(Letter: "Sammys' Bonds Ruled Out
Turning In Their Brothers:' April 30,
page 5).
If, as the letter writer points out, the
future careers of these marauding chil-
dren were on the line if they chose not
to stick together rather than turn on
their brothers, why would they elect to
participate in the destructive actions
to begin with? Does he believe their
decision not to turn on one another
makes men out of these spoiled, cod-
dled boys?
Upstanding young men with their
sights set on lofty goals in medicine,
finance and law need to act according-
ly and not like the liquor-fueled ado-
lescents that carried out this rampage.

Can you solve my
tax problem?
Yes, I can. Tax problems are
stressful — they cause loss of
• sleep and enormous pressure.
The biggest mistake people
make is ignoring them. There
are good solutions available, at reasonable
cost, to release levies and often settle the
debt. Unlike may firms recently claiming
to handle tax problems, THAV GROSS has
been solving tax problems for individuals
and businesses in the area for 33 years.
If your bank account has been levied or
wages garnished, the first step we do is
contact the IRS or the State and work
to get your money released. If you have
unfiled tax returns, we will help you get
the returns filed. If unpaid taxes are the
issue, we will analyze the years and dates
to determine if the statute of limitation has
or is about to run. Income taxes are also
sometimes dischargeable in bankruptcy —
so we also examine that option to eliminate
the tax. For both income and payroll
tax liabilities — an Offer in Compromise
with IRS and and now with the State is a
possible way to settle the tax for pennies
on the dollar. The important point here — is
that there are options and avenues to solve
the problem. You should call us today — for
a FREE CONSULTATION.
