Get, The Pointe?

Savor the flavor of these barbecue aficionados.

E

very so often, but quite rarely, a fam-
ily restaurant will open to cater to
the needs of the various tastebuds of
its customers and friends.
One like Brass Pointe, Orchard Lake Road,
just north of 10 Mile, Farmington Hills, is
celebrating its 34th anniversary with features
that include barbecued ribs and barbecued
or broasted chicken as its main selections
along with seafood, Mexican specialties,
prime rib, steaks, etc.
There has never been a shortage of
Mexican-only restaurants ... Many good
ones are available to satisfy "south-of-the-
border" appetites that often capture one's
fancy.
And there are restaurants that may have
other cultures, too, but concentrate mainly
on one ... Such is Brass Pointe, whose main
forte has always been barbecued and broast-
ed offerings ... although customers also
enjoy its broiled whitefish among the seafood
items, prime rib, steak and hamburgers, etc.
This wide selection has proven through
the decades to be an important asset in the
dining desires of many ... Like two or four or
more people sitting at tables and booths and
given their menu choices from a three-fold
varied selection that takes in the barbecued
and broasted choices, Mexican specialties,

steaks, prime rib, etc. ... Other
items you can order, like coconut
shrimp, are not listed on the
menu.
As it was under the res-
taurant's original name of
Pumpernik's, still available are
the Mexican and American
dishes ... When it changed its
name to Brass Pointe in 1986,
even more American features
were added ... However, the
concentration on barbecuing and
broasting was prevalent, even though more
features were added ... Best-sellers today by
far are the St. Louis ribs, slow-cooked baby
backs, and barbecued and broasted chicken.
Both owners, Bob Mihajlovski and Danny
Nestorovich, came here from the former
Yugoslavia ... Bob arrived in 1967 and
Danny two years later ... So it is entirely pos-
sible that the name Pumpernik's might never
have been thought by them of as that of a
delicatessen.
Weekly numbers are striking ... over 2,000
pounds of ribs, more than 2,500 pounds
of chicken, 600 pounds of baby back ribs,
around 100 pounds of shrimp, 500 pounds
of prime rib, around 100 gallons of barbecue
sauce, etc.
Brass Pointe is open seven days ...
Mon.-Sat., 11-10; Sun., noon-1 a.m.
... Seating in the dining room is 200,
stools at the bar for14 and more seat-
ing for 60 in the banquet room, which
is also used for the overflow, especially
on weekends ... Quite a difference
in capacity from when it originally
opened ... between 60 and 70 seats.
Bob is remembered by many from
his previous days as owner of the
Advance Building Cafeteria on Nine
Mile and Greenfield, Southfield.
Family dining spots like Brass
Pointe
are very much wanted ...
Brass Pointe general manager Kosta

a coveted position in the
Mahajlovski, with his father, co-owner Bob
hearts
of
many
people, so thankful
Mahajlovski, and co-owner Danny Nestorovich

that there is such a restaurant to
satisfy their hungry palates.
THOSE WHO ENJOY the
many tasty thrills that accom-
pany adventuresome dining are
rightly selective when it comes
to authenticity ... And most
particular in the enjoyment of
that country's cuisine.
They want the real thing ...
which so many are discovering
at the new Indo, an Indonesian
restaurant on Cass Lake Road
between Orchard Lake Road and Cass-
Elizabeth Road in Keego Harbor.
Having a chef/owner born in Indonesia,
whose recipes are among those prepared by
her at home ... and brought with her from
a homeland whose dining culture is consid-
ered among the finest, is priceless.
Melik Alonzo and husband, Nick, are see-
ing many diners coming to Indo to enjoy
their chicken or beef sate, extremely popular
in Indonesia, also Lumpia Goreng (egg rolls),
Bakwan (vegetable fritters), Rendang (slowly
cooked spicy beef), Ayam Java (spicy Java
chicken), Ayam Karri (Indonesian Chicken
Curry) and so much more.
Indo opened this past October with the
excellent asset of extreme cleanliness ...
Tables and booths are available to seat 85
six days a week ... Tuesday-Thursday and
Sunday, open noon-9 p.m.; Friday and
Saturday, until 10 p.m.
The healthy and tasty presentations at
Indo restaurant may be the elusive ones you
are looking for ... It is the only eatery of this
cuisine in the region ... All dishes can be
gotten mild, medium or hot.
GOOD SERVER DEPT. ... Leanne Spokes
at Dimitri's Pancake House, Southfield, does
what a good waitperson should do ... SMILE
... A great asset to go with her efficiency and
pleasant personality.
BACK IN 1937, Buddy's Pizza was look-
ing to make a contribution to another worth-
while charity ... Many on its staff suggested

giving to the fine Capuchin Soup Kitchen,
noted for wonderful work in feeding the
needy hungry among so many great deeds.
Thus was adopted "Slice for Life" as
another charitable name by Buddy's ... Last
year, more than $100,000 was raised ... and
almost $3 million in the past 38 years for the
Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
This is its 39th year, with folks purchasing
tickets ... 10 a.m.-10 p.m., Monday, April 13
... at any Buddy's location ... The $15 ducat,
adults, or $7 children under 10, entitles them
to dine in on all-they-can eat pizza with two
toppings and salad or carry out a medium
four-square pizza with two toppings or a
medium antipasto, Greek or house salad.
Certainly another wonderful example of
Buddy's Pizza helping those unfortunate per-
sons who cannot help themselves.
OLDIE BUT GOODIE ... Lying in the
hospital bed, a man began to flail about and
make motions as if he would like to speak.
The rabbi, keeping watch at the side of his
bed, leaned quietly over and asked, "Do you
have something you would like to say?"
The man nodded, and the rabbi handed
him a pad and pen. "I know you can't speak,
but write a note, and I will give it to your
wife.'
Gathering his last bit of strength, the man
scrawled his message on the pad and stuffed
it into the rabbi's hands. The man passed on
and the rabbi handed it to her. The wife tear-
fully opened the note, "YOU'RE STANDING
ON MY OXYGEN HOSE!!"
CONGRATS ... To Don Cohen on his
birthday ... To Maurice "Bud" Sherbow
on his birthday ... To Betty Ellias on her
birthday ... To Jay Grant on his 93rd birth-
day ... To Maynard "Manny" Kalef on his
85th birthday ... To Judy Grossman on her
birthday ... To Nancy Braun on her 70th
birthday ... To Cortney Chimoff on her
26th birthday.
