ot a party or meeting to cater?
An occasion for a cookie tray?
Or just a yen for a delicious meal
as close as it gets to home cooking —
without cooking at home?
Easy. Think Kosher to Go.
One of Jewish Detroit's best-kept
secrets, Kosher to Go is a service of
Jewish Senior Life (JSL) — a full-service
catering company — preparing food in
the kitchens of Meer Jewish Apartments
in West Bloomfield and Prentis Jewish
Apartments in Oak Park. Who better to
provide wonderful kosher meals, from
appetizers to dessert, than the culinarians
who prepare 900 dinners five days a week
for the residents living at JSL?
Kosher to Go is not a new service. "It's
a 're-startup' of the carry-out food service
we've offered the community for some
time explains Barbra Giles, associate
director of JSL. "The big difference now
is that we are responsible for the dining
service ourselves — and no longer utilize
an outside food service source. Since May
2014, under the excellent management of
Ron Colasanti, our director of dining ser-
vices, we've noticed a significant improve-
ment both in our menu and the quality of
our food service:'
With more than 20 years in the food
service industry, Colasanti has brought
his own culinary flair to JSL, adding new
signature entrees to the daily fare, not to
mention a frosted brownie residents have
described as "out of this world:'
Reasonably priced at $13.95 per per-
son, a typical Shabbat meal on the Kosher
to Go menu might include a choice of
baked chicken or beef brisket with cous-
cous, green beans almondine, tossed
salad, chicken noodle soup, mini challah
rolls and brownies. For large orders, serv-
ing 12 or more, Kosher to Go requests 48

hours notice. Otherwise, most orders can
be accommodated the same day with pick
up at Meer Apartments.
"Considering how limited the options
are for kosher dining in the area, we
consider Kosher to Go a real asset to the
community:' says Colasanti. "We look
forward to building our menu as well as
accommodating special requests:'
Emphasizing that Kosher to Go offers
full-service catering, Giles added that JSL
provides an appealing menu for any occa-
sion as well as the wait staff for parties
and life cycle events.
"We do it all and we deliver as weir
she says, "from our signature cookie trays
for an afternoon meeting to a bar mitz-
vah. Currently, we're putting the finish-
ing touches on our new Passover menu
for prospective customers to place their
Passover order in March.
"Beyond the amenities and food qual-
ity that we're offering, the best news is
that the financial success from Kosher
to Go flows back to Jewish Senior Life
Giles says. "People can feel especially
good about their orders knowing that all
proceeds from our catering fully support
senior services in the community:"
Commenting on a recent experience
with Kosher to Go, Lea Luger, executive
director of Yad Ezra kosher food pantry
in Berkley, says, "I ordered a light supper
from Kosher to Go for Yad Ezris annual
board meeting and was very pleased with
Ron and his staff's attention to detail. He
provided a variety of items that tasted
wonderful, were plentiful and presented
in an attractive way. I definitely would
recommend Kosher to Go and look for-
ward to using them again:'
