Susan Wayde and Cindy Broderick
ging and dependent loved ones
create new concerns and respon-
sibility for many family members.
The amount of time and effort required
to plan and care for a parent, grandparent
or other loved one struggling with age,
Alzheimer's, dementia, or the physical
effects of a stroke, diabetes or other medi-
cal ailments is often underestimated.
For many, one of the best things a
family can do for their loved one is help
them remain safely at home as long as
possible. "Time and time again we see
a positive impact on our client's overall
health and attitude when able to stay in
their familiar surroundings" says Susan
Wayde, co-owner of Trustiva Health.
However, families who plan to keep
a loved one at home often need some
sort of assistance to accomplish the goal.
Trustiva Health recognizes this and focuses
its services on truly understanding each
unique situation to develop a plan to meet
the client's need now and in the future.
Trustiva Health's services include
personal care (such as hygiene and
dressing) to light housekeeping,
meal preparation and transportation.
Individualized care plans document
physical activities, mental status and
services provided. Any change to our
client's status is documented and
communicated regularly to the family.
"While we provide non-medical
healthcare, "says Cindy Broderick,
co-owner of Trustiva Health, "we strive
to align to the objectives of our client's
health care team as it relates to physical
activity, medication management, etc. We
also understand that moving a loved one
into a family member's home or long-term
care facility may be the best choice for
that family. Trustiva provides the same
level of planning and service in those
situations. Regardless of the decision, our
goal to provide care and companionship
with dignity and respect."
"We play a big role in what we call
transition management," says Wayde.
"We spend a lot of time with our clients
helping them understand the true impact
of keeping their loved one at home. We
walk them through potential modifications
for the house, financial considerations,
detailed care requirements — all the
unpredictable aspects of change that tend
to paralyze people. We leverage our strong
personal experience so they have a better
understanding of what to expect today,
tomorrow and a year from now."
"We both have had extensive
experience managing and caring for our
parents," says Broderick. "Our goal was
to keep them home and in optimal health
and we're successful in doing that. We
have walked the walk. When people
contact us with their concerns, we've been
there so we truly understand what they
are going through and what they need."
With Trustiva, family members are
always aware of the care their loved ones
receive. Families can log on to an online
portal and see documentation pertaining
to the care their loved one received
that day and feel more involved from a
distance. Care notes also document any
changes to their physical or mental health
so the family may make care modifications
as necessary.
Home care services are not licensed
by the state. Since there is no regulation,
lack of oversight can put people at risk.
"We only hire certified nursing assistants,
people with strong backgrounds,"
Broderick says. "We do background checks
and drug tests, which is not a common
practice. We realize clients are letting a
stranger their home and we want them
to feel as comfortable as possible in this
situation."
With Wayde's RN experience and 30
years in the medical field, she provides
clinical oversight on every case. This
includes monitoring changes in client
status and advising caregivers and families
as appropriate.
Broderick has as many years' experience
in sales and account management
and provides both the administrative
and operational expertise required for
managing the company.
"When everything is considered,
having someone stay at home for as long
possible is in the long-term best interest
of the patient," Wayde says. "People
want to stay at home. We provide the
recommendations and assistance to make
this possible. It's so important to have an
open and honest conversation with the
family so our services can meet and evolve
with our client's needs."
