HILARIOUS!:
to artists like Smokey Robinson and the
Philadelphia Sound:' he says.
But when Goodman heard Eric
Clapton's early super-group, Cream,
everything changed.
"Between that and a couple of other
things that were going on with my gen-
eration at the time, I got into rock 'n
roll; the rest, as they say, is rock history"
Though he is no longer at MTV,
Goodman continues to be a player in the
industry as a host on Sirius-XM radio.
"I like being in the position that I'm in,
because I get to turn people onto [music]:'
he says.
While The Midnight Special has not had
a regular broadcast spot for decades, it
continues to gain fans through videos and
online editions year after year
That is why Sugarman decided to put
out new DVDs, which range in format
from a single-disc "best of" to a six-DVD
set to an 11-disc collector's edition.
While old fans can reminisce and new
fans can see what they missed, Sugarman
continues to toy with the idea of bringing
The Midnight Special back to the airwaves.
"I am talking to someone now who's
been talking to me for about a year-and-a-
half about it:' Sugarman says, declining to
reveal a name.
"He would be a great host, a wonderful
artist, but we will have to see if it goes fur-
ther. I rather doubt it, but we will see."

to audiences coping with the
horrors of World War II, the musical
group Company B wants to be known for
bringing those same happy songs to audi-

The tribute trio — paying homage to
Maxine, Patty and LaVerne Andrews —
plans an upbeat New Year's Eve during an
event arranged by the Jewish Ensemble
Theatre.
The title for the evening of entertain-
ment and partying is Bei Mir Bist Du
Shoen ("You Are Beautiful to Me"), from
the Andrews Sisters' hit song that popu-
larized a sense of Yiddish culture among
multicultural listeners. The song will be
featured in the performance.
"We want our show to be uplifting and
hopeful:' says Carla Fiore, who organized
the tribute group and plays Maxine. "For
those who were fans of the group, I hope
we can evoke some memories:
Also singing will be Dawn Shelden as

Company B, based in California and
doing more than 30 shows a year, will
perform at 6 and 9 p.m. Audience mem-
bers can buy additional tickets for dinner
served between the two shows and/or an
afterglow, where the three singers will be
meeting and greeting.
"What we like most about the Andrews
Sisters is their incredible and undeniable
harmonies' Fiore says. "We believe that
this music is a perfect fit for any audience
as it is so heartwarming."
