B'nai Moshe Gives
The Gift of Warmth

Warmth Drive" in November to collect
hats, scarves, gloves and mittens to be
donated to the South Oakland Shelter

On Dec. 2, synagogue Executive
Director Steven Fine delivered more than
Mitch Albom Nets
$812,000 For Charity
Mitch Albom's third annual S.A.Y. Detroit
Radiothon had its best year ever, more
than doubling its previous totals in rais-
ing $812,000. S.A.Y. Detroit is an umbrella
organization for seven charities aimed at
helping Detroit's neediest from infants to
seniors.
"We are overwhelmed and humbled by
the generosity of the listeners and the cor-
porate support:' says Albom.
"This total will allow us to help so many
more of Detroit's neediest citizens through-
out the year. It just proves no city or state
takes better care of its own than ours:'
Albom and his radio crew broadcasted
1,200 items and more than 70 pounds of
new and gently used items to SOS.
Ryan Hertz, president/CEO of SOS,
was grateful to B'nai Moshe members
for the donations. He loved that the
synagogue sees itself as part of a larger
community and wanted to help where
help was needed.
B'nai Moshe plans many more social-
action initiatives in the coming year.

ith Chanukah just around
the corner, starting on
Dec. 16, the search begins
or continues for the perfect gift. But,
did you know that the Jewish News has
always been a place to find suggestions
for holiday giving?
On Dec. 13, 1946, the House of Books
ran a Chanukah Book Gift Suggestion
series in the Jewish News. Book sugges-
tions were made for children and adults
alike, with titles like The Picture Book
History of the Jews by Howard & Bette
Fast for a mere $1.25 and The Hanukkah
Book by Emily Solis-Cohen for only
$2.50.
These elegant gift ideas were not the
only ones to appear in the Jewish News
over the years, as other advertisements
for Seagram's V.O. Canadian Whisky and
General Electric's new Rosenfeld Radio
