SHARON HOPE
(WASSERMAN)
MARGULIS, 72, of

Grand Rapids, died Nov.
18, 2014, after a long and
courageous battle with
MDS and leukemia. She
was surrounded by her
Margulis
loving family.
Mrs. Margulis was
born and raised in New
York City; and it was there she met her
husband of 52 years, Steve. Together, they
raised three children as they journeyed
around the country, living in Minneapolis,
Minn., Gainesville, Fla., Gaithersburg,
Md., Buffalo, N.Y., and Grand Rapids.
Throughout the years, Sharon was active in
the Jewish community and spent time vol-
unteering at her synagogue.
Her greatest pride and joy came from
raising her family: Pam, Dan and Lainie,
her loving children, and her four beautiful
grandchildren, Shannah, Isaac, Jacob and
Maddie.
She was particularly active in support-
ing young Jacob in his battle against brain
cancer, even as she courageously battled
her own cancer. Throughout her illness, she
never wavered as an avid and loving cheer-
leader for her family.
Mrs. Margulis is survived by her
husband, Stephen Margulis of Grand
Rapids; her children, Pam Stone (Ben)
of Philadelphia, Pa., Dan Margulis of
Bloomfield Hills, Lainie Shapiro (Michael)

and Maddie Shapiro; her brother, Melvyn
Wasserman (Sandy) of Plainview, N.Y.;
many other loving relatives and friends;
her two beloved granddogs, Shadow and
Bentley.
Services and interment were in New York
City. Contributions may be made to the
Smashing Walnuts Foundation for pediatric
cancer research and support (www
smashingwalnuts.org ) or to the MDS
Foundation (www.mds-foundation.org ).
