A Life Of Giving

C

harles Wolfe, 71, of Pompano
Beach, Fla., died Sept. 2, 2014,
in Miami.
Native Detroiter "Chuck" Wolfe was a
tireless Jewish communal servant and
a dedicated father and grandfather.
He leaves behind a legacy of generos-
ity, humor, faith and wisdom. He was a
teacher, counselor and mentor to those
who worked with him.
Chuck, or Chucky, was at his happiest
when surrounded by family and friends.
Whether at a seder or his favorite falafel
joint, a festive table at the High Holidays
or with friends in Israel, where he visited
26 times, there was never a lack of wit,
wisdom and tenderness.
Born in 1943, the youngest son of
first-generation Americans Nathan
and Gertrude Wolfe, Chuck grew up in
Detroit with his older brother Itzy. As a
young man, Chuck was a leader of Camp
Tamarack at Brighton, where it was rare
to find him without a stringed instru-
ment and a song. There he met his first
wife, Carol, with whom he raised two
children in West Bloomfield.
Chuck became the director of educa-

ed daughter of the late Alex and the late

the late Shirley Stein.
