ANN BARNES, 90, for-
merly of Detroit, Delray
Beach, Fla., and
Southfield, died Aug. 18,
2014, in Lansing.
She was born in Detroit
to Peter and Esther Keller.
Ann graduated from
Northern High School
in Detroit in 1942; during and shortly after
World War II, she worked at Continental
Aviation and Engineering, where she found
herself frequently being promoted. Though
she said she never knew why, those who
knew her could imagine it most likely had
something to do with her intelligence, effi-
ciency and excellent social skills. Later, she
combined lovingly raising her family with
work as the bookkeeper for the family busi-
ness, Barnes Dental Laboratory.
Ann was an avid reader, knitter and list
maker. Friends and family always felt wel-
come in her and her husband Oliver's home.
She and Oliver respected people of all back-
grounds and, never having forgotten where
they came from, were always generous to
those in need. Ann was an excellent listener.
No matter what was going on in her life,
within a minute she'd be asking you about
your own. Like her mother, Esther, who
always said that "everybody be all right:' Ann
was patient and taught us that everything
usually works out in the end.
Mrs. Barnes was the beloved wife of the
late Oliver Jack Barnes.
She was the loving mother of Alan
Barnes, Iris (Douglas Stokes) Barnes, and
Peggy Barnes (partner, Edna Feibusch);
the adoring grandmother of Rachel Stokes;
the cherished sister of Sophie Berkowitz,
William (Beverly) Keller, Irene Singer, the
late Sadie Sipher, the late Morton Keller,
and the late Louie Keller. She is also sur-
vived by many loving nieces and nephews,
family members and dear friends.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park.
Contributions may be made to Mother
Teresa House, P.O. Box 13004, Lansing,
MI 48901; or a charity of one's choice.
Arrangements by Hebrew Memorial Chapel.
