NEXTGen Detroit hosts its second annual
Blue and White Night.

I

t was a beautiful night in
downtown Birmingham as
Federation's NEXTGen Detroit
hosted its second annual Blue &
White Night at the Community House on
June 26.
The celebratory event, co-chaired
by Michael Chosid and Sarah Kirsch,
brought together more than 230 young
Jewish Detroiters for a show of support
for Israel. Proceeds from the evening
went toward Federation's 2014 Annual
Campaign, which provides support for
the people of Israel in its partner region
in the Central Galilee as well as across
the nation.
The young Jewish Detroiters enjoyed
a fabulous outdoor evening in a striking
blue-and-white Bedouin tent. Guests
dined on Israeli signature dishes,
including falafel and tabouli prepared
by Chef Cari Kosher Catering.
"Guests were asked to wear blue
and white to show support of Israel,"
said Kirsch. "We were thrilled to see
such a huge crowd showing their Israeli
pride!"
Newly elected NEXTGen Detroit
President Jay Hack welcomed guests,
reflecting on Israel's meaning to
Jews across the world, as well as its
challenges.

"Even though tonight is a fun
celebration, it's important to take a
moment to acknowledge the harsh
reality of the recent kidnapping
that took place in Israel," he noted,
referencing the events which ultimately
led to the tragic murder of three young
Israelis.
Guests showed support by lighting
candles arranged in the shape of an
Israeli flag. The beautiful display shone
throughout the tent, evoking the
strength of the community's support for
Israel.
Event sponsors were FIDF, AIPAC,
Aish, Temple Israel, Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, Congregation Beth
Shalom and B'nai Israel Synagogue.
"The host committee wanted to show
NEXTGen Detroit's Israeli pride in a
unique way," Chosid said. "We certainly
accomplished that. It was amazing to
see such a great turnout."
