Chabad Legal Expenses
Deprive Charities Of Funds
The article "Chabad Lawsuit" (May
22, page 30) stated that Lubavitch
Foundation of Michigan, under the
guidance and leadership of Rabbi Berel
Shemtov, continues to pursue its lawsuit
against the Tugman Bais Chabad Torah
Center in West Bloomfield.
It's hard to understand how
Lubavitch Foundation doesn't under-
stand the terrible disgrace and chilul
hashem (desecration of God's Name)
created by this course of action.
Furthermore, it is clear that
Lubavitch Foundation — which has
three major law firms working on the
case — is wasting a staggering sum of
much-needed Jewish charity for the
purpose of trying to put one more small
building under its control. Have they no
shame?

U-M Is The Top Choice Of
Local College-Bound Jews
Some of the letters to the JN in its May
22 edition (page 5) present scary and
alarming pictures of anti-Semitism
practiced at U-M campuses in Ann
Arbor and Dearborn.
A few pages later, a section titled
"Cap & Gown Yearbook 2014" features
Jewish high school graduates. Below
each graduate's photograph, the univer-
sity that he/she will attend is identified.
The overwhelming choice was U-M.
Seventy-eight of our brightest Jewish
children and grandchildren will attend
U-M. (Forty-four more will attend
MSU).
Perhaps, our youngsters' choices for
higher education provide a more real-
istic and accurate picture of the accep-
tance of Jews at those fine institutions
than do the descriptions in the letters
to the JN. Otherwise, we must make the
insulting assumption that our graduates
and their parents are unaware or just
do not care about anti-Semitism. Do
you think?

Climate Change Column
Politicized The Discussion
Columnist Harry Kirsbaum's essay
really sets me off (Red Thread, May 29,
page 37). I've been a subscriber to the
Jewish News for over 40 years and have
had occasional differences with your
editorial content. But this article is get-
ting close to the final straw that will
make me cancel my subscription.
I can almost see the sneer on Harry's
face as he composed this pile of liberal
nonsense. Anybody who doesn't believe
what Harry believes is beneath con-
tempt.
Please read the article in the May
27 Wall Street Journal opinion section
titled "The Myth of the Climate Change
`97%7 Published two days before the
Jewish News essay, the WSJ piece refutes
Mr. Kirsbaum almost point-for-point. I
don't know what Mr. Kirsbaum's scien-
tific qualifications are, but the WSJ arti-
cle authors are, respectively, president
of the Heartland Institute, and principal
research scientist for the University of
Alabama at Huntsville.
You might also want to look into
Professor Michael Lockwood's recent
articles. He's a British climate scientist
who is predicting a new "little ice age"
by mid-century due to (low) sun spot
activity.
Climate change, man-caused or due
to natural geologic and solar cycles,
is a complex subject. Politicizing the
discussion is not the way to develop the
appropriate way forward.

Jewish News Helps Keep
Young Adults In Detroit
Traveling to other major cities, I was
surprised at the skimpy print edi-
tions of the various Jewish newspapers
including Chicago and New York.
It makes me appreciate our Detroit
Jewish News. It is robust in size and
combined with digital readers, the cir-
culation is equal to many years ago as
other newspapers shrink and die. The
advertisements are overwhelming and
the articles give a great cross section of
America's best Jewish community.
Publisher Arthur Horwitz and the JN
staff, along with the Jewish Federation
of Metropolitan Detroit, have success-
fully helped retain and attract talented
younger adults, when so many had
given up. I look forward each week to
reading the JN.

Peace Only Possible
When Arabs Want It
In his May 29 guest editorial on page
38, Noah Arbit writes that Tzipi Livni
was the "one most likely to bring about
peace [between Israel] and its Arab
neighbors:' On what basis does Mr.
Arbit make this statement?

Rather than the fanciful statements of

Brown Center Provides
Dementia Assistance
We read with great interest the article
on the Bloomberg family in the May
8 issue (page 1). Coping with a family
member's early onset of dementia can
be a life-altering experience for the
family.
We want readers to know about our
local services that can assist families
facing similar problems who desire to
maintain their loved ones at home.

Yes, you guessed it '"rock."
That was easy. Let's try
another one. If you have
$30,000 of Credit Card debt
at 20% interest, how much interest
will you pay per year on the debt? The
Answer is $6,000. If you are in a 30%
tax bracket, do you know how much
you need to make to pay your taxes
and net $6,000 to pay the taxes? The
Answer is $8,571. If you are making
$85,710 per year, do you know much
of your income you are wasting on
the interest? The Answer is 10%. Next
Question - If you have credit card
debt like this, do you know what you
should do? The Answer is YOU NEED
TO TAKE ACTION to get rid of the
debt, so the $8,571 goes to pre-tax
retirement savings instead. If you earn
7% on your money in an IRA or 401(k),
do you know how much the $8,571
will be in 15 years? The Answer is
$226,405. If you would rather have the
$226,405 then pay the credit card debt,
do you know what to do? The Answer
- Call Thav Gross - we do many things
- but there is nothing better than what
we do with credit card debt!
