cores were down, but the competi-
tion and camaraderie were up as
usual at the 61st annual Jewish
Women International Bowling Association
of Metropolitan Detroit city tournament.
"For some reason, scores were lower
than usual across the board:' said associa-
tion spokeswoman and former president
Carolyn Fine.
"The lanes were tough. And maybe
we didn't bowl as well because we lost an
hour of sleep that weekend when we went
to Daylight Saving Time she said with a
laugh.
The lower scores produced the clos-
est race for the team championship in
memory.
Only two pins separated the top two
teams during the two-day, six-game
tournament held at Country Lanes in
Farmington Hills.
Just Clowning Around won the team
championship with a gross (actual plus
handicap) score of 5845.
Better Lucky Than Good finished second
with 5843.
Captain Dana Glinski led Just Clowning
Around. Also on the team were Bonnie
Weintrobe, Helene Friedman, Rhonda
Sandweiss and Merryl Schwartz.
Shelley Gershune was captain of Better
Lucky Than Good. Her teammates were
Margie Winston, Shari Morgan and Susie
Goodman.
Bowl 'Em Over finished third with 5673
and had the team high game with 1007.
Annette Schaefer was the Bowl 'Em Over
captain. Also on the team were Brenda
Waldman, Natalie Katkowsky, Gwen
Silverstein and Ardele Wolfson.
Yiddle Women had the second-highest
team game with 1001, just six pins behind
Bowl 'Em Over.
Faith Freeman was the Yiddle Women
captain. Linda Goldberg, Maralyn
Averbuch, Joanne Fealk and Lorraine
Friedman also were on the team.
Here are the individual winners and
runners-up in the "A' and "B" divisions.

All For Charity
JWI of Metropolitan Detroit bowlers hold
a month-long charity tournament each
season that raises funds for an organization
affiliated with JWI.
"We take a vote to determine our
recipient:' said association spokeswoman
Carolyn Fine.
"This year, we chose the JWI Residential
Treatment Center (RTC) in Israel for trou-
bled boys and girls that's renown around
the world. No drugs are used in treatment:'
Fine said the association donated $250
to the RTC.
Bowlers pay $1 per week to participate
in the tournament. Seventy-five percent
of the proceeds benefit the charity, and 25
percent goes to the bowlers.
Each bowler submits her highest three-
game series (actual plus handicap) during
the tournament to be in the running for
cash prizes.
Joanne Bas, Andie Feuereisen and Dana
Glinski grabbed the top three spots in this
season's tournament.
They were followed by Caron Goldfme,
Dianne Schneider, Nettie Rosen, Ellen
Minkin, Leslie Ben-Ezra, Sue Lawrence and
Judie Burnstein.

First, the "it' division.
