SARAH BACOW,
89, of Farmington
Hills, died March 6,
2014.
A funny and
nice grandmother,
she always compli-
mented people and
Bacow
was a good cooker.
She always wanted to know what was
happening in people's lives.
Mrs. Bacow is survived by her
husband of 71 years, Martin Bacow
(they had been together for 74 years);
daughter and son-in-law, Gail and
Daniel Zides of San Diego, Calif.; son
and daughter-in-law, Joel and Deneen
Bacow of Huntington Woods; grand-
children, Michael and Michelle Zides,
Robert Zides, Jack Bacow, Bennie
Bacow; great-grandson, Justin Zides.
She was the dear sister of the late
Rita, the late Lillian, the late Goldie,
the late Abe, the late Carl, the late Hy.

Interment was held at Nusach Hari

DINA BURTON, 96, of Farmington
Hills, died March 5, 2014.
She was the cherished mother of
Leah (and the late Norman) Decker,
Rosalie (and the late Seymour)
Gold; loving grandmother of Susan
(William) Ruff, Julie (John) Zobeck
and Sheila (Dr. Bruce) Wolf; adored
great-grandmother of Leah and Jacob
Ruff, Matthew and Aaron Wolf.
Mrs. Burton was the beloved wife
of the late Bob Burton; dear sister of
the late Sarah Polon; devoted daugh-
ter of the late Sam Levy and the late
Sadie Levy.
Interment was held at Hebrew
Memorial Park in Clinton Township.

VICKY CRAFTON,
61, of Clinton, died
March 4, 2014.
She is survived
by her beloved,
lifelong companion,
Arnold Shenkman;
daughter, Heather
Crafton
Lee Cody of Dallas,
Texas; brother, Bob Crafton; sis-
ters and brothers-in-law, Danielle
Crafton, Sally (Kirby) Browns,
Mary (Greg) Fontana, Sue Crafton;
beloved friends, Linda Bennett and
Susan Branham; many loving nieces,
nephews, other family members and
friends.

place at Adat Shalom Memorial Park
Cemetery in Livonia. Arrangements

ESTHER FOX, 80, of West
Bloomfield, died Jan. 17, 2014.
She was a bookkeeper. She lived in
the Detroit area for many years and
enjoyed traveling with her husband.
Mrs. Fox is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Michael and Haruko
Fox of Kobe, Japan.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Marc Fox; loving mother of the late
Marcia Fox.

STANLEY "STAN"
GAVERN, 88, a for-
mer resident of sub-
urban Detroit, died
March 7, 2014.
Mr. Gavern was
born in Detroit on
Sept. 2, 1925, at
Gavern
Harper Hospital.
c. 1984
His family lived
in the Dexter-Davison area, where
he attended McCulloch Elementary
School and Durfee Intermediate. He
graduated from Cass Technical High
School, where he majored in chemi-
cal engineering. Upon graduation in
January of 1944, Mr. Gavern entered
the Army. As a member of the 95th
Infantry Division, he was involved in
battles and campaigns in northern
France, Germany, Central Europe
and Western Europe. His division
joined up with the Third Army, led by
General George Patton, at the Battle
of Metz. The division was involved in
fierce combat and received the nick-
name "the Iron Men of Metz." During
the battle, Mr. Gavern was wounded
and was awarded the Bronze Star for
bravery in action.
After the war, he attended the
University of Michigan, where he
received a B.S.M.E. in chemical
engineering. He began his career at
Roman Cleanser and then worked for
Parke Davis, Warner Lambert and
Pfizer for 35 years as a chemical engi-
neer in the pharmaceutical industry.
In retirement, his focus turned
to becoming a masters-level bridge
player, a competitive tennis player,
accomplished golfer and all-round
sports enthusiast. Family and friends
will miss his gentle and caring man-
ner, quick wit and captivating smile.
