soothes me, and I am happy to exhibit
my work in the show"
Also included in the exhibit are

Rosenfeld, Michael Ross, Danielle
Styles, Dale Teachout and Colin Wilson.
"I'm excited to contribute to the
`01d2New' exhibit for a few reasons"
said Berkley resident Andrea Rosenfeld,
49. "First, I'm big into helping our
environment; I recycle at home and use
recycled materials in my jewelry art.
"Second, this concept, creating 'new'
from 'old: is similar to the redevelop-
ment going on in Detroit and other
burgeoning Michigan communi-
ties. Buildings and swaths of vacant
land are being reformatted and re-envi-
sioned and, especially in historic build-
ings, their original details and history
are [hopefully] being carefully worked
into the new translation of the space"
Rosenfeld describes the metamor-
phosis of her painting Revision, which
will be included in the exhibit, like
this:
"It started with a great, old image
lying around the gallery," she said. "I
stripped it from its frame and added
new concepts on top — not opaque,
mainly because the flat, glossy board
doesn't allow the paint to adhere
well — but also to keep the old image
important.
"The layers float and, at some points,
actually merge into the movement

of the original print. The form in my
painting is sitting quietly, hugging
her knees, eyes closed, serene, revis-
ing herself. She is layering visions of
what she would like her life to become
over what she's created so far during
her existence. Revision is growth, lay-
ering and new translations while still
honoring the foundation"
In addition to the exhibit in the
main area, "Old2New" will highlight
Lisa Goedert in the Side Gallery, show-
casing a new and upcoming artist,
whose works are shaping, reflecting
and defining the world today.
Goedert, who has been painting
for the past 15 years at her Ferndale
studio, said: "My art is about mark-
making: rhythmic lines, circles, dots,
scribbles and dashes. I am inspired
by patterns found in nature, especial-
ly those found in fields and marsh-
lands:' ❑
