New Leader

Jeremy Restaurant & Bar aids in food drive.

NFTY Michigan adds regional youth director.

A

eremy Restaurant & Bar in
Keego Harbor is teaming up with
Detroit-based Cass Community
Social Services (CCSS) to host a holiday
canned food drive and help fill the cup-
boards of families in the tri-county area
who might otherwise go without food this
holiday season.
Continuing through Tuesday, Dec. 31,
Jeremy Restaurant will become a drop-off
point to collect canned goods to provide
food for the homeless in Detroit.
"The need is very real:' said Jeremy
Grandon, owner and executive chef of
Jeremy Restaurant. "Hunger is a private
matter, and the face of hunger could be
your grandparent, a friend or neighbor. You
might not even know it. Reports estimate
that in the tri-county Metro Detroit area,
more than 700,000 individuals are wonder-
ing where their next meal will come from
right now That's scary"
CCSS is in need of nonperishable canned
and pre-packaged food that contain meat
products, such as canned salmon or tuna,
soup and canned pasta with meat. Canned
vegetables and fruit are also welcomed.
"We wanted to do this to make donating

to CCSS easier:' added Grandon. "If the col-
lection is strong enough, we are looking at
expanding the drive. The need doesn't end
with the holiday season"
Donations can be made at Jeremy
Restaurant & Bar, 1978 Cass Lake Road,
from 5-9 p.m. Sundays and from 5-10 p.m.
Tuesdays through Saturdays. Call (248)
681-2124 for more information.
