FOR 100 YEARS THE ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE HAS
EMPOWERED MILLIONS TO FIGHT PREJUDICE

et's wrap up our coverage of the 2013 JCC Maccabi Games & Artsfest
events in Austin, Texas, and Orange County, Calif., with these reports.

IMAGINE A WORLD

The girls soccer team from Detroit, Rockland County, N.Y., and Virginia
Beach, Va., strongly bonded.

Team First
Michelle Ellis said coaching the
Detroit-Rockland County-Virginia
Beach girls soccer team in Orange
County was a humbling experience.
"These girls put teammates before
themselves; they would have given
anything for each other;' she said.
That's quite a compliment consid-
ering the team never practiced, and
there were two girls from Rockland
County, N.Y., and one from Virginia
Beach, Va., on the 10-player roster.
"At one point, we had so many
injuries that there weren't enough

players available to make substitu-
tions, but we had girls begging
to play through injuries so they
wouldn't let their teammates down:'
Ellis said. "And we had injured
players insisting to go on the field
so their friends could have water
breaks:'
Looking like they'd played togeth-
er for years, Ellis said, the girls went
3-1 in preliminary games (each win
came by one goal) and earned the
fifth seed among 20 teams in the
playoffs. Unfortunately, the girls
didn't win a medal.

Members of the inline hockey team signal a 'T' for Theresa Fulgenzi,

the former assistant coach who died last month.

Special Silver Medal
Playing in honor of former assistant
coach Theresa Fulgenzi, who lost her
battle with cancer last month, the
Detroit inline hockey team won a
silver medal in Orange County. The
host team beat the Detroit boys 5-3
in the championship game.

Fulgenzi was coach Bryan Robbins'
assistant in 2011.
"I've never seen a team bond as
well as this one:' Robbins said. "The
kids were inseparable. They stuck
together at all the activities and on
the rink. They truly loved being
around each other:'
