Irwin Cohen receives
Simons Award at Jewish
Historical Society annual
meeting.

early 200 people attended the
Jewish Historical Society of
Michigan's 54th annual meet-
ing at the Detroit Historical Museum in
Detroit on May 7. The occasion featured
keynote speaker Josh Linkner and presen-
tation of the Leonard N. Simons History
Award.
Gary Torgow, philanthropist and a
Detroit developer, introduced his friend
Irwin Cohen, author of several books on
Jewish history and the 23rd recipient of
the prestigious award.
The event was chaired by Sheri Schiff,
who helped treat guests to Jewish-
themed tours of the recently renovated
museum. President Gerald Cook provided
an exciting update on JHSM activities,
including the Aug. 18 J-Cycle III bike tour
of historic Jewish Northwest Detroit.

Business to Business

Senior service professionals share
their expertise at JFS.

ness professionals who
work primarily with older
adults came together to share industry
updates during ElderCare Solution of
Michigan's Business to Business Mix
and Mingle on May 23 at Jewish Family
Service's Orley Family Building in West
Bloomfield. Participants included elder
law attorneys and geriatric care manag-
ers as well as representatives from home

care companies, hospices and many
other senior service providers.
The event was held in honor of
National Geriatric Care Management
month and included a presentation
about how geriatric care managers help
older adults and their families cope with
challenges that come with aging. This
was followed by small group discussions
and open networking.
