Metropolitan Detroit's SAJE (Seminars
for Adult Jewish Enrichment) will host
Journeys in Judaism, a series featur-
ing three of the
world's leading
rabbis, begin-
ning this month
and continuing
through May. The
guest speakers will
be Reform Rabbi
David Ellenson,
Rabbi David
Orthodox Rabbi
Ellenson
Simon Jacobson and
Conservative Rabbi
Shai Held.
All presenta-
tions will be at the
Berman Center
for the Performing
Arts at the Jewish
Rabbi Simon
Community Center
Jacobson
in West Bloomfield.
The series begins
on Monday, April
22, with Rabbi
Ellenson, who will
discuss "Jewish
Pluralism: Are
There Limits?"
Rabbi Ellenson is
president
of the
Rabbi Shai
Cincinnati-based
Held
Hebrew Union
College-Jewish Institute of Religion
(HUC-JIR) and I.H. and Anna Grancell
Professor of Jewish Religious Thought.
On Monday, May 6, at 7:30 p.m.,
Rabbi Jacobson will speak on "The
Future of the Jewish People: A Frank
Discussion on Jewish Relevance to Our
Lives." He is the author of the best-sell-
ing Toward a Meaningful Life, which
has been translated into more than 10
languages. He is the head of the New
York-based Meaningful Life Center,
which works to bridge the secular and
the spiritual.
On Monday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m.,
Rabbi Held will discuss "What Are
Human Beings For? What the Bible
Really Means When it Tells Us We Are
Created in the Image of God:' Rabbi
Held is co-founder, dean and chair in
Jewish thought at Mechon Hadar in
New York City; he serves on the faculty
of the Wexner Heritage Program.
Following each lecture, there will be a
dessert reception, book sale and signing
with the speaker.
The cost for JCC members is $22 per
person for the full series, or $9 per per-
son for each lecture. The cost for non-
members is $28 per person for the full
series, or $11 per lecture per person.

Congregation B'nai Moshe
Open House for Hebrew School
Congregation B'nai Moshe will host an
open house for its L.I.F.E. program 9:30-
11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, at the West
Bloomfield synagogue for families interested
in learning more about the synagogue's inno-
vative Hebrew School curriculum.
L.I.F.E. stands for Learning Is a Family
Experience, which is the philosophy
behind the program.
Attendees will have the opportunity to
enter a drawing for a $200 Willoway Day
Camp gift certificate toward a Summer 2013
camp session. You must be present to win.
Education director Gail Gales will discuss
details of the Shabbat-centered Hebrew
School. Guests will have an opportunity
to visit the classrooms, talk to the teachers
and watch the Junior Congregation service.
They also are invited to stay for the end of
the regular Shabbat morning service and
join the congregation for a Kiddush lunch
immediately following.
At Congregation B'nai Moshe, classes
for grades K-12 meet on Saturday morn-
ings; grades 1-7 meet on Tuesdays.
Kindergarten is free for all students in the
program. More information will be avail-
able at the open house.
