artier this year, the Hillel Campus
Alliance of Michigan (HCAM),
a network of Michigan campus
Hillels, joined forces with Hillel of Metro
Detroit (HMD) for its annual Statewide
Leadership Retreat, which brings together
Hillel student leaders for a day of net-
working, learning and brainstorming.
HCAM is building dynamic, vibrant
Jewish communities for Jewish students
at Alma College, Albion College, Central
Michigan University, Grand Valley State
University, Kalamazoo College, Michigan
Tech, Northern Michigan University and
Western Michigan University. HMD ser-
vices students at Lawrence Technological
University, Oakland Community College,
Oakland University, University of Detroit
Mercy, University of Michigan-Dearborn
and Wayne State University.
This collaborative day of learning takes
place at MSU's Hillel in centrally located
East Lansing. Attendees participate in
ice-breaking activities, discuss problems
and challenges within their Hillels, receive
formal leadership training and spend time
networking with their peers. During the
retreat, students are able to discuss chal-
lenges and successes and work together
to develop new strategies to help grow
their individual organizations.

The Statewide Leadership Retreat was a
program initially developed and organized
by HCAM. This year, with the added sup-
port and collaboration of Hillel of Metro
Detroit, student leaders were able to gain
knowledge from a wider pool of both stu-
dents and advisers.
"I love how we are not only continu-
ing the relationships between HCAM
universities, but also developing a new
relationship with Hillel of Metro Detroit,"
said Tsiporah Davis, Albion Hillel presi-
dent. "Because there are so few Jewish
students at Albion, it feels great to gather
with the other Hillel presidents and lead-
ers to hear their challenges and achieve-
ments and to just hang out."
The annual retreat is held every
January. For information on getting
involved with the Hillel Campus Alliance
of Michigan, email Robyn Berkowitz,
director of engagement and campus
initiatives, at RobynHCAM@gmail.com .

student life, at hilleled@wayne.edu . @
