with each other and Israel. How fitting
that this Detroit delegation assembled
at the place that, today, adjoins the
Davidson Center of the impres-
sive Jerusalem Archaeological Park,
funded through the generosity of the
William Davidson family and many
Detroit mission participants.
During the 10-day mission, more
than 30 buses traversed the country,
adhering to finely choreographed
itineraries tailored to individual buses,
sprinkled with mega-events involving
the entire group. Mission participants
returned to Detroit exhilarated and
exhausted, and in time to join 5,000
others in the community-wide annual
Walk for Israel.
This year, our community's annual
Walk for Israel takes place Sunday,
May 5, in West Bloomfield, with
Temple Shir Shalom serving as the
event's hub. It provides a perfect
opportunity to celebrate Israel, rec-
ognize participants from the 20th
anniversary of the still-larger-than-life
Miracle Mission (and those who have
traveled to Israel from Detroit on sub-
sequent miracle missions), and serves
as a fitting conclusion to the 70th
anniversary year of the Jewish News.
The miracle of Israel was only a
dream when the Jewish News first
began publishing. It is easy to over-
look the fact that Israel was re-born
in our lifetimes. When our parents,
grandparents and generations of their
predecessors prayed at their Passover
seders for "Next Year in Jerusalem:' it
was a largely unattainable goal. Today,
it is as simple as booking a flight on
one of several airlines.
Best wishes for a meaningful and
festive Passover. Thank you for your
multi-generational support of the
Jewish News. We look forward to see-
ing you, and celebrating Israel with
you, at the community-wide Walk for
Israel on May 5. ❑
