SYLVIA (GLUKLICK)
MARKEL, 101, died
Feb. 8, 2013.
She was born in
Edmonton, Alberta,
Canada, on Dec. 8, 1911,

with unceasing optimism and courage,

until the very end, she shared her secret
way to happiness with the very many
people whose lives she touched.
Mrs. Markel was preceded in death by
her husband, David Markel; her daughter,
Audrey Elkiss; her son-in-law, Stanley
Elkiss; her grandson, Stephen Markel;
and her longtime companion, Sidney
Weingarden.
She is survived by her children, Sheldon
Markel (Geri) and Jane Gertz (Steven);

her grandchildren, Mitchell Elkiss (Sally
Rosenberg), Davee Elkiss, Laura O'Connor,
David Markel (Stacy), Ellen Rambo,

dren, Elizabeth, Isaac, Max and Noa
Elkiss, Dylan O'Connor, Alexandra, Jacob,
Samuel, Danielle, Charles, and Timothy
Markel; her siblings, Edward Gluklick
(Shirley) and Fritzie Doroff; and countless
adoring nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held to cel-
ebrate her life on Sunday, April 14, at Ira
Kaufman Chapel in Southfield. The time is
yet to be determined.
