obituaries Obituaries from page 73 SYLVIA (GLUKLICK) MARKEL, 101, died Feb. 8, 2013. She was born in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, on Dec. 8, 1911, to Samuel and Annie Gluklick and was one of Markel 10 children. The family immigrated to Detroit in 1920 and Sylvia lived the rest of her life in the Detroit met- ropolitan area. In her early teens, she became a sales- person, a career that she continued into her early 90s. For more than 40 years, she sold advertising specialties and was known as Sylvia Markel "Your Idea Gal." During her long life, she faced every challenge with unceasing optimism and courage, and without complaint. She was extraordi- narily generous to her loved ones and, up until the very end, she shared her secret way to happiness with the very many people whose lives she touched. Mrs. Markel was preceded in death by her husband, David Markel; her daughter, Audrey Elkiss; her son-in-law, Stanley Elkiss; her grandson, Stephen Markel; and her longtime companion, Sidney Weingarden. She is survived by her children, Sheldon Markel (Geri) and Jane Gertz (Steven); her grandchildren, Mitchell Elkiss (Sally Rosenberg), Davee Elkiss, Laura O'Connor, David Markel (Stacy), Ellen Rambo, Jennifer Gertz (John Talambiras), Emily Gertz (Ed Boyak); her great-grandchil- dren, Elizabeth, Isaac, Max and Noa Elkiss, Dylan O'Connor, Alexandra, Jacob, Samuel, Danielle, Charles, and Timothy Markel; her siblings, Edward Gluklick (Shirley) and Fritzie Doroff; and countless adoring nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held to cel- ebrate her life on Sunday, April 14, at Ira Kaufman Chapel in Southfield. The time is yet to be determined. JACK NOVOMINSKY, 80, of West Bloomfield, died March 4, 2013. He is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law, Marion and Bert Stein of West Bloomfield, Nancy Barat of Windsor, Ontario; many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She is survived by her son, Dr. Jay Richman of Sarasota, Fla.; daughter and son- Richman in-law, Gail Stewart Berman and Alby Berman of West Bloomfield; former daughter-in-law, Geta Richman of West Bloomfield; grandchildren, Scott and Jenna Stewart, James and Einav Stewart, Jeff and Lynn Richman, Drs.
