leadership.
Obama's surrogates never tire of accus-
ing the "Tea Party" of extremism — how-
ever, the true extremists are already in the
White House. Tea Party supporters are as
critical of big-government conservatives as
they are of tax-and-spend liberals. In fact,
many Tea Party candidates have defeated
establishment Republicans.
The danger of a re-elected Obama
is that he will not have to hide his true
radical values like pretending he supports
Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, or pre-
tending he does not want to shrink Israel
to indefensible borders, or that domesti-
cally he really does support capitalism
despite his collectivist rhetoric.
I do not know what bothers me more,
the fact that Jerusalem was removed from
the DNC platform or that at the last min-
ute Obama gave the order to re-insert it
no matter what to give the appearance
that the Obama administration and the
Democratic Party have Israel's back.
Both the act and the cover-up do not
bode well for those of us who recognize
Jerusalem as the eternal and undivided
capital of Israel and pray and hope that
one day a brave and principled American
president will follow the law and finally
move the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem where
it belongs.
I am sure Obama will never move our
embassy, but maybe a Romney adminis-
tration would.
Does anyone doubt that a Romney
administration would reassert and repair
the historic bond between the U.S. and
Israel as well as domestically unleash the
pent up entrepreneurial and innovative
spirit of the American people that has
become dormant due to Obama's adver-
sarial relationship with the private sector
of our economy?

Thomas More Law Center
Merits Closer Scrutiny
Regarding the Letter "In Support of
Bachmann, Thomas More Law Center"
(Aug 30, page 5), the letter writer appre-
ciates the More Center's "very thorough
documentation" of the irregularities sur-
rounding the sale of Eagle School. But
your average law firm this is not, and we
should scrutinize their motivation care-
fully, lest we be judged by those we associ-
ate with.
So why is it that TMLC has provided
hundreds of hours of free legal services?
Counsel Dick Thompson answered the
question when he addressed the commu-
nity recently at Congregation B'nai Moshe
in West Bloomfield. It turns out TMLC had
no interest in Eagle until they realized its
connection to their goal of "Confronting
the Threat of Islam."
According to TMLC, Islamic
Organizations in America have "already
infiltrated the highest levels of our govern-
ment, the media, our military, both major
political parties, public schools, universities,
financial institutions and the cultural elite
The spirit of Sen. Joseph McCarthy lives!
The rhetoric sounds frighteningly familiar;
only the targets have changed. Sixty years
ago, it was communists and many Jews
who were the targets; today it's Muslims.
Another TMLC tenet: "Christian values
upon which this nation was founded are
under attack. The ACLU ... [is] using sym-
pathetic courts to destroy the religious and
moral foundations of our great nation ...
IS]eparation between church and state ... is
found nowhere in our Constitution."
No separation of church and state in the
Constitution? We as Jews and any others
of non-majority faiths should be greatly
concerned by such assertions. For in such
a country, our children could be compelled
to participate in school prayer honoring a
state-endorsed majority religion, and it's
not going to be Judaism.
TMLC rounds out its list of priori-
ties with defeating "radical homosexual
groups" (marriage equality); efforts to
"homosexualize our military" and over-
turning Roe v. Wade.
I'm not trying to pick a fight with TMLC
or demean any of the moral and religious
beliefs they aggressively defend. To the
contrary, I will stand and defend their
right to the free speech and freedom of
religion they seek to deny others.
TMLC singles out the ACLU and other
like-minded groups for "using sympa-
thetic courts to destroy the religious and
moral foundations of our great nation". So
I joined ACLU and the Anti-Defamation
League, too.
If representatives of the Farmington
Public Schools have acted inappropriately
or violated any laws they should be held
accountable. They serve at the behest of
the voters, and if they have not served us
well, we should elect others. But we should
not allow ourselves to be used as pawns to
fan the flames of intolerance and fear.

Corrections
• In "Natural Woman" (Red Thread, Aug.
30, page 32), model Julia Eisenberg was
incorrectly identified as makeup artist
Mara Moss.
• The grandparents of Lucy Blair
Manchel ("I've Got A Secret") in "Happy
Grandparents Day" (Sept. 6, page 13) were
misidentified. Andi and David Sklar of
West Bloomfield are the proud grandpar-
ents.
In addition, the photo of Isaac Mintz of
West Bloomfield ("Happy Days," page 13)
should not have been on the same line as
Sabina and Juliet Mintz. Although the chil-
dren share the same last name, they are
not related. Our apologies for the mix-ups.
