Danny Raskin Was 'Right On'
Regarding Caucus Club
As a Caucus Club regular since Barbra
Streisand's memorable performance
there in the back room and even before,
I know that Danny Raskin got it just
right.
Mary and the chef have done an out-
standing job in continuing the quality
of its classical menu. The Caucus Club
is a special place in Detroit's restaurant
history.

County Commission Candidate
Was Not Covered In JN
As a Jewish candidate running for
the recently redrawn 14th District for
Oakland County Commission, I would
like to echo some of the thoughts articu-
lated by Brad Hantler in his letter to the
editor in last week's Jewish News.
Although Mr. Hantler ran as a
Republican and I am running as a
Democrat, I agree with his observation
that the Detroit Jewish News seems to
be ignoring certain candidates in their
political races in favor of others.
Part of the stated "mission" of the
Jewish News is to "reflect the full range
of diverse viewpoints while also advo-
cating positions that strengthen Jewish
unity and continuity."
Like Mr. Hantler, I sent a timely press
release to the Jewish News announc-
ing my candidacy for Oakland County
Commission before the primary race.
Although the Jewish News listed several
Jewish candidates for various offices, it
"misplaced" my press release and failed
to publish my name.
Previously, I had served on the
Beverly Hills Village Council for 10 full
years and as president of the council
for four of those years without a single
mention in the Jewish News. At the
time, I chalked it up to the fact that I
was serving in an area that was not pre-
dominantly Jewish. However, I am now
running for an office that encompasses
parts of Farmington Hills and all of
Franklin and Bingham Farms.
It seems there was a time when the
Jewish News covered every aspiring
Jewish politician so the entire Jewish
community could learn about and
understand its candidates.
I hope the Jewish News reconsiders its
policies on covering Jewish candidates
and upholds its mission statement to be
a "responsible, responsive member of
the community."
Incidentally, I won the primary and

am now on the ballot in November. I
hope all of your readers will be sure to
vote.

President Obama
Deserves Second Term
I am proud to be among the many "Jews
for °barna." I was a member of the "Jews
for Obama" during President Obama's
first campaign, and I will remain a loyal
Jew for Obama through his second.
I am more than annoyed with any
assertions that President Obama has
not been a strong supporter of Israel.
That is simply nonsense and political
rhetoric from those on the other side
of the political aisle lobbying for their
candidate.
It is disingenuous for Norm Coleman
to refer to Mitt Romney as "a democrat,
with a small `d:" or to say that he has an
"understanding of Israel's society and
history." ("Romney A Strong Friend Of
Israel," Aug. 30, page 46). Mitt Romney
is a garden-variety Republican with a
penchant for flip-flopping on issues.
President Obama has been a stalwart
supporter and defender of Israel and
has espoused the values that Jews in
America and Israel have held precious
throughout our history.
There is no population more passion-
ate about education than Jews. President
Obama is an "education" president and is
unlike Mr. Romney, who touts vouchers
and tax credits that would destroy our
public schools. President Obama believes
women deserve equal pay as evidenced
by his signing of the Lilly Ledbetter Act,
and that children deserve health care
through his signing of the Children's
Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
In the Bush administration as in a
Romney administration, our children
would not have health insurance, nor
would women have equal pay. Unlike
Mr. Romney, Mr. Obama believes in a
woman's "right to choose" as does the
Jewish faith.
President Obama deserves a second
term. No sitting president since Franklin
Delano Roosevelt has had to deal with a
period of economic depression the likes
of which we face in America today. We
did not get here in four or even eight
years.
The economic crisis and depres-
sion has been the result of decades of
neglect to the fabric and foundation of
America's infrastructure. No president
on either side of the political aisle will
put our economic house back together

again in one or even two terms in office.
And we most certainly will not rebuild
the American Dream by destroying the
middle class.
President Obama is working to steady
and rebuild America's course and to
support Israel and our foreign allies.
Barack Obama is the president that we
need in America and for the continu-
ing security of Israel. Mitt Romney is a
glove that does not fit.

Obama's True Colors Are
Exposed On Jerusalem
The spectacle at the Democratic National
Convention of the party elites — under
pressure from Republicans and Fox
News who exposed the attempt to erase
Jerusalem as Israel's capital from the
Democratic Party platform — attempting
to reinsert God and Jerusalem into the
platform should raise a red flag for any
potential Jewish supporter of Obama.
[See related story on page 94.]
It is clear that the "nays" were more
numerous and louder than the "yeas"
during the roll-call vote. The boos after
the platform was amended are testa-
ment to the extreme left-wing tilt of
the Democratic Party under Obama's

If you are in a 30%
tax bracket and you
''are carrying $80,000
of credit card debt at
18% interest - do the math.
You're paying $14,400 per
year in interest (80K x 18%).
This is non-deductible. In a
30% tax bracket, you have
to gross $20,571 in order
to have $14,400 after tax to
pay the interest. If you're
making $175,000 a year,
$20,571 is 17.5% of your
earnings and you're
wasting it on credit card
interest! Think how much
better off you could be in 15
years, if that $20,571 went
into an IRA or 401(k) plan
instead. Don't waste your
retirement. Call us - we
know the math and the
path you must take.
