The Retirement Lifestyle You've
Always Dreamed About

self for allowing the events of the past
two years to "knock [her] down to the
point where she couldn't get up again."
As Rabbi Cohen mentioned, self-
forgiveness is part of the process of
teshuvah.
Dietrich offers an additional benefit
of releasing the need to punish the self
"If a person can soften this tendency
on their own, that is good. Through
teachers, wonderful rabbis, reading,
it can be done. It has a trickle-down
effect. When one becomes less self-
critical, one becomes more benevolent
in general."
Jews the world over will soon head
to synagogue. Whether their prayers
find expression in Hebrew or the lingua
franca, their hearts will speak a univer-
sal plea for benevolence: s'lach lanu,
m'chal lanu, kaper lanu — pardon us,
erase our sins, give us atonement.

Birthright Israel
Offers Holiday Map
NEXT: A Division of Birthright
Israel Foundation launched an
interactive map of High Holiday
services and celebrations that allows
young adults across the country to
easily find meaningful opportuni-
ties, many of which are free or
discounted. More than 324 services
and events in 175 U.S. cities are rep-
resented in the online tool, part of
NEXT's High Holiday Guide.
The map is paired with a resource
guide featuring a primer on Rosh
Hashanah and Yom Kippur rituals
and customs, traditional recipes and
fasting tips, and links to NEXT's
themed Pinterest board.
"NEXT recognizes that many
young adults have a strong desire
to celebrate the Jewish holidays, but
can find it difficult to navigate and
connect to local opportunities," said
Morlie Levin, CEO of NEXT. "We
created an interactive map to address
this challenge because we know the
Birthright Israel generation uses
digital tools to find real-world expe-
riences"
NEXT's collection of resource
guides — including those for
Passover, Shavuot, Tu B'Shvat, Purim
and an upcoming Sukkot guide
— aim to make the holidays more
accessible to Birthright Israel alumni.
Local synagogues included are
Shir Tikvah Congregation in Troy,
Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue in
Detroit, Congregation Shaarey Zedek
in Southfield, and Congregation Beth
Ahm and Temple Kol Ami, both in
West Bloomfield. To request inclu-
sion in the interactive High Holiday
map, contact alumni@
