Aish in the Woods holds a hands-on Purim party.

S bouts from costumed children
cheering on their hermit crabs
during a series of races could be
heard Thursday, March 8, at the Aish in the
Woods' Purim party. While some children
raced crabs, others got to work baking
hamantashen with help from their parents.
About 40 people attended the party,
which featured a delicious meal and the
reading of the Megillat Esther, punctuated
by frequent "boos" from the crowd when-
ever Haman's name was spoken.
Children who attended the party received
prizes and all the hamantashen they could
eat. Youngsters who had their parents' per-
mission went home with their very own
colorfully painted hermit crabs.

Friendship Circle's Purim Drive brings hamantashen baking to homes.

E

ach year, Friendship Circle
brings the joy of Purim to
kids with special needs
with its annual Purim Drive.
Teenage and adult volunteer
drivers meet at Friendship Circle
in West Bloomfield dressed in fun
costumes. They are then divided
into smaller groups for each car
and given mishloach manot (Purim
packages) and ingredients for bak-
ing hamantashen. Each car goes to
a different home where the family
receives the package and volunteers
make hamantashen with the kids.
This year, the drive took place on
Purim day, March 8.
