ON THE BOARDWALK SUNDANCE SHOES ChaiCenter Purim costume party draws a crowd to Birmingham. T he Birmingham-Bloomfield Community Purim Costume Party was enjoyed by 115 people at the Birmingham Community House on March 8. The event was a strolling dinner with strolling entertainment by Magician Baffling Bill, Pirate Captain Jack and Balloon Sculptress Dana. Every child in costume received a prize. The party was hosted by the Birmingham-Bloomfield Chai Center. S bouts from costumed children cheering on their hermit crabs during a series of races could be heard Thursday, March 8, at the Aish in the Woods' Purim party. While some children raced crabs, others got to work baking hamantashen with help from their parents. About 40 people attended the party, which featured a delicious meal and the reading of the Megillat Esther, punctuated by frequent "boos" from the crowd when- ever Haman's name was spoken. Children who attended the party received prizes and all the hamantashen they could eat. Youngsters who had their parents' per- mission went home with their very own colorfully painted hermit crabs. Friendship Circle's Purim Drive brings hamantashen baking to homes. E ach year, Friendship Circle brings the joy of Purim to kids with special needs with its annual Purim Drive. Teenage and adult volunteer drivers meet at Friendship Circle in West Bloomfield dressed in fun costumes. They are then divided into smaller groups for each car and given mishloach manot (Purim packages) and ingredients for bak- ing hamantashen. Each car goes to a different home where the family receives the package and volunteers make hamantashen with the kids. This year, the drive took place on Purim day, March 8. 6889 Orchard Lake Rd.
