Since its debut for the Super Bowl XL in 2006, the Mo-
town Winter Blast has been working hard to make being
cold cooler. More than 50 entertainment acts will perform
on two stages, the Quicken Loans Taste of Detroit will offer
samplings from favorite Detroit-area eateries, and you can
warm up in Comfort Zones every 150 feet. Plus, of course,
a variety of Winter Experience events that will include free
ice-skating at Campus Martius Park, snowshoeing, the
Greektown Casino Ice Garden, professional skating dem-
onstrations, dog sledding, marshmallow roasting and a
perpetual fan favorite — the Arctic Blast, a thrilling ice ride
at the Rink at Campus Martius Park. Check out the Kids
Zone, too. 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday-Saturday, Feb. 10-11;

FREE FISHING WEEKEND
Big Time
Rush
Two times a year, the Michigan Department of Natural
Resources' Fisheries Division waives all fees for free fishing
fun. The 2012 Winter Free Fishing Weekend will be held
Saturday-Sunday, Feb. 18-19, and there are a handful of
ice-fishing events taking place throughout the region, in-
cluding Chelsea's Ice Fishing Festival, where kids can make
a jig stick, learn to fish with the Waterloo Recreation Area
rangers, ice-skate and warm up at the campfire.

BIG TIME RUSH
It may not be Beatlemania, but count on plenty of

their musical dreams on Nickelodeon's Big Time Rush
hit the stage at Detroit's historic Fox Theatre with songs
from their new album, Elevate. 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25.
