D. Dan Kahn

of only was D. Dan Kahn a successful businessman and an "outstanding
philanthropist:' but he also left an "amazing family legacy" to his children
and grandchildren as they carry on his philanthropic work and strong
involvement in the Metro Detroit Jewish community.
With his business flourishing in the 20th century, he at first gave amounts of
money anonymously to many individuals and families in need.
"But then he realized he wanted his children and grandchildren to know what he
was doing so they could learn from his kindnesses and follow in his footsteps

Temple Emanu-El
celebrates 60 years.

H

onoring its history and envisioning its future success,
Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park celebrates its 60th anni-
versary in 2012 with a calendar full of events and com-
memorations that kick off this weekend, Jan. 13-15.
When temple founders established the Reform congrega-
tion in 1952, the Jewish values of social action and tikkun
olam were regarded as most important, and those values have
endured at Emanu-El to this day. In the past few weeks, three
successful social action programs were completed by hundreds
of temple members.
Bea Sacks, who died on Jan. 3, was a founder, former two-time
congregation president and established social action leader in
the greater Jewish community who inspired the annual "Send
