DMC Opens
Private-Room
Unit At Huron
Valley-Sinai

D

MC Huron Valley-Sinai
Hospital in Commerce
officially opened the
Rose and Joseph Miller Pavilion
to patients on Nov. 1. The pavilion,
the hospital's new all-private room
orthopedic and neurology unit, cost
$7 million to build and features 21
private rooms, rehab services on
the unit, patient classrooms and
electronic medical record charting
at the bedside.
It is the first Vanguard Health
Systems funded project to be com-
pleted at the DMC.
The project, which broke ground
on March 1, renovated 20,736
square feet previously occupied by
the hospital's Regional Specialty
Center. The existing space was
freed up in 2009 with the opening
of the Sinai Guild Medical Office
Building on the hospital's campus.
The renovation also allowed an
additional 21 semi-private rooms
to be converted to private. Huron
Valley-Sinai Hospital is now at 82
percent private rooms.
"We are excited to bring this new
level of quality care to our patients:'
said Lynn Torossian, president,
DMC Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital.
"Private rooms have shown to not
only promote the healing process,
but also help with infection control.
Having this unit is a huge plus for
our patients, staff and physicians."
Special features include flat
screen TVs, GetWell Network enter-
tainment system, patient lifts, full
bathroom with European (no step
up) showers and sleeper sofa for
guests.
"The Rose and Joseph Miller
Pavilion at DMC Huron Valley-Sinai
Hospital will boost our Medical
Main Street strategy to market
Oakland County as a destina-
tion for world-class health care
said Oakland County Executive L.
Brooks Patterson.
Orthopedics and neurosurgery
are important services at Huron
Valley-Sinai. The hospital is a
national leader in Birmingham Hip
Resurfacing surgery, an alternative
to total hip replacement, and was
the first in the state to perform the
procedure. It is also certified by the
Joint Commission for total hip and
total knee replacements. II
