ee R. Franklin, 80, of Detroit,
died Sept. 8, 2011.
She was an attorney at law.
Mrs. Franklin was born on April
2, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo., to Milton
and Martha Rosenthal.
Since 1954, she made her home
in Detroit, where she raised her
daughters, Juana Alicia Araiza

After graduating summa cum laude
in 1966, she clerked for the Chief
Judge of the Court of Appeals, T.

a labor law partnership with James

for the rights of many types of ser-
vice workers, from janitors to farm
workers to members of the SEIU

clean the stalls at the racetrack. She
defended the disenfranchised and
underrepresented, worked for the
rights of women and fought to keep
abortion legal.
Known as a brilliant legal strate-
gist and elegant arbiter, she dedi-
cated the final decade of her career
to arbitration. As a humanitarian
and humanist Jew, she was an
active and energetic member of the
Birmingham Temple.
She was known as an ebullient

party-giver, ballroom dancer and
friend to countless members of
many communities. She lived at
1300 Lafayette East for several
decades, where she was an active
member of the board and vibrant
member of that community. Her
Passover dinners were legendary
and included her many godchildren,
grandchildren and friends.
Mrs. Franklin is survived by
her daughters; brother, Alan G.
Rosenthal (Carol); sister, Uta D.
Skalka; grandchildren, Mayahuel
Raquel Montoy and Justin Lee
Regnier (Sarah Kollman Regnier);

large extended family.
Mrs. Franklin was preceded in
death four years ago by her hus-
band, Robert G. Keydel.
The family wishes to express
special thanks to Rielle Randle,
Alonzo Austin, Norma and Richard
Keil Shaw, Michael and Elizabeth
Haggerty and Dave Grissom for
their deep and dedicated friendship
and care throughout her last year

Sunday, Sept. 11, at Birmingham
Temple. Arrangements by Ira
