Joe Cornell Event Expo
To Offer 90 Vendors
The 9th annual Joe Cornell Event Planning
Expo is expanding this fall, with a new
Wedding Marketplace featuring select
expert wedding vendors promoting their
services and products to brides and
grooms.
"With the launch of Joe Cornell
Weddings last fall, our new venture that
specifically tailors wedding entertain-
ment to suit a bridal couple's budget as
well as their dreams, we felt it was time
to invite our wedding vendor colleagues
to display what they can do at our Expo,"
says Steve Jasgur, president of Joe Cornell

For High Schoolers
Current high school juniors and seniors are
invited to join Michigan State University
7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at the Jewish
Community Center in West Bloomfield to
find out all the college has to offer.
Representatives
from the MSU office of
admissions, the Jewish
Studies Program, MSU
Hillel and the College of
Human Medicine will
be on hand to answer
questions. Representatives from the James
Madison College and Residential College
in Arts and Humanities will also attend.

Persian Jews Explored
On DVD Presentation
Congregation Beth Ahm is screening on
DVD Professor Howard N. Lupovitch's
series titled "Esther's Children: Persian
Jews Under Emperor, Caliph, Sultan,
and Shah." It offers a panoramic explo-
ration of the history
of the Jewish com-
munity of Persia, one
of the oldest in the
world. The hour-long
lectures begin at 1
p.m. Wednesdays.
The Oct. 5 topic will
be "Under Sultans
Howard
and Shahs" and will
Lupovitch
explore how the
subordination of Shiite leaders to the
Ottomans allowed Persian Jews to thrive
into the 20th century.
On Oct. 26, the lecture "Israel, Iran
and the Persian Jews" looks at the
impact of Zionism and Israel on Persian
En errainment.
The expo will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Jewish Community
Center, 6600 W. Maple Road in West
Bloomfield, where 60 general vendors will
represent all aspects of event-planning
needs and another 30 will focus on wed-
dings.
The Joe Cornell Expo brings together
everything needed to plan a great party:
photographers, entertainers, invitations,
florists, decorators, gift-makers, hotels,
caterers, cakes, valet services, bands, DJs
and more.

Jewish Gay Network's
Family & Friends To Meet
The Jewish Gay Network of Michigan
(JGN) Family & Friends will hold its
next meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6,
in the library of the Jewish Community
Center in West Bloomfield.
The JGN Family & Friends, an ongo-
ing discussion/support group, meets
on the first Thursday of every month.
The group includes anyone with family
or friends who identify as lesbian, gay,
bisexual, transgender or who are ques-
tioning (LGBTQ) their sexual orienta-
tion or gender identity. Members offer
support, share experiences and discuss
issues impacting the LGBTQ and allied
community. Meetings are free.
