Lupovitch's series titled "Esther's Children: Persian Jews Under Emperor, Caliph, Sultan, and Shah." It offers a panoramic explo- ration of the history of the Jewish com- munity of Persia, one of the oldest in the world. The hour-long lectures begin at 1 p.m. Wednesdays. The Oct. 5 topic will be "Under Sultans Howard and Shahs" and will Lupovitch explore how the subordination of Shiite leaders to the Ottomans allowed Persian Jews to thrive into the 20th century. On Oct. 26, the lecture "Israel, Iran and the Persian Jews" looks at the impact of Zionism and Israel on Persian En errainment. The expo will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Jewish Community Center, 6600 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield, where 60 general vendors will represent all aspects of event-planning needs and another 30 will focus on wed- dings.
