A Jewel Of A Man
G
ary Greisdorf immigrated to
America in 1972, initially work-
ing as a busboy. But, before
long, he established what would become
one of the premier jewelry stores in the
Metropolitan Detroit area.
Mr. Greisdorf, 80, of West Bloomfield,
owner of Greis Jewelers in Farmington
Hills, died from melanoma on Aug. 31,
2011.
Mr. Greisdorf, a native of Latvia, suf-
fered the loss of his father when he was
12. During the Holocaust, young Gary,
his mother and three siblings fled Latvia,
taking refuge in Central Asia in Soviet-
ruled Kazakhstan.
They returned to Riga, Latvia, after the
war. Gary had learned watchmaking as
a young teen and supported his mother
and siblings by fixing all the area's clock
towers.
Eventually, Gary married and, in 1971,
he and his wife, Gita, emigrated from
LEAH ADELSON, 94, of Oak Park, died
Sep. 10, 2011.
She is survived by her sons and
daughters-in-law, Paul and Sue Adelson
of Farmington Hills, Richard and Vicki
Adelson of Clearwater, Fla.; daughter and
son-in-law, Donna and Barry Jeross of
Farmington Hills; grandchildren, David
(fiancee Verena Streber) Adelson, Audrey
(James) Farquaharson, Robert (Ann)
Adelson, Beth (Ken) Redfern, Dr. Amy
(Dr. Brian) Heyman; great-grandchil-
dren, Elana, Jack, Alex, Henry, Maggie
and Leah; devoted caregivers, Mary
Walton and Felicia Jackson. Also survived
by loving nieces, nephews, other family
members and friends.
Leah was the beloved wife of the late
Jack Adelson.
Contributions may be made to Hospice
of Michigan or to any charity of one's
choice. Interment was held at Machpelah
Cemetery in Ferndale. Arrangements by
Dorfman Chapel.
LYNN BLAKESLEE, 64, of Saginaw, died
Sept. 10, 2011.
She is survived by her son, Benjamin
Blakeslee; sisters and brothers-in-law,
Gail and Charles Geer, Eileen Jacob, and
Elizabeth and Larry Hintz. Ms. Blakeslee is
also survived by loving friends and family.
She was the beloved daughter of the
late Mae Henkin and the late Oscar
Schwartz.
Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.

Two years
later, in 1974,
Gary and Gita,
with help from
Boris, founded
Greis Jewelers in
Ferndale, where
they offered

services to other
area jewelers. Slowly but surely, the couple
built a small, but dedicated clientele
base. They moved the store to its cur-
rent location at the corner of 14 Mile
and Middlebelt in Farmington Hills in
1976. Son Jason has worked side-by-
side with his parents at the store for
the past 22 years.
Mr. Greisdorf
was an avid pho-
tographer, who
did all of the
camera work for
Greis Jewelers'
ads and website.
He was also a big

Food Network and
make gourmet
meals for his fam-
ily for every Wednesday dinner and
Sunday brunch.
"My dad was a quality buff:' said
Jason, "which included not only the
merchandise at the store, but also
everything from his shoes to the car he
drove.
"We miss him, but we plan to uphold
the traditions he started:' Jason said,
"including his belief that honesty is the
only way to run a business?'
Gary Greisdorf is survived by his
beloved wife, Gita; son and daughter-
in-law, Jason and Robin Greisdorf
of Wolverine Lake; daughter, Luba
Matison of West Bloomfield; brother
and sister-in-law, Boris and Mary
Greisdorf of West Bloomfield; sister,
Rosa Rusonik of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Kameron, Ryan, Jade
and Elise Greisdorf; many loving niec-
es, nephews, other family members and
friends.
Interment was held at the Clover
Hill Park Cemetery in Birmingham.

SEYMOUR "CY" DASH, 83, of Sun City
West, Ariz., died Aug. 26, 2011.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years,
Shirley; sons, David and Jeff (Cheryl)
Dash; two grandsons; three great-
grandchildren; sister and brother-in-
law, Estelle and Ralph Levin of West
Bloomfield; and numerous nieces and
nephews.

HERBERT GUSSIN, 84,
of California, died Aug.
30, 2011. He was a vet-
eran of World War II.

ROBERT KASMER, of Bozeman, Mont.,
formerly of Detroit, died on Aug. 12,
2011.
Originally a journeyman carpenter,
Bob pursued higher education in clinical
social work and established his practice
as a therapist in Bozeman. In addition to
his work, he devoted thousands of hours
of volunteer service to aid children and
veterans through local organizations.
Bob was a devoted husband, and father
and friend. A humble and generous man,
he was loved, and will be missed by all.
Bob is survived by his wife, Cathy
Cooper; children, Fletcher and Libby;
brothers Russell, Rick Selik; sister, Carol
Irving; and mother, Eleanor Kasmer
Selik.
He is the son of the late Alex Kasmer.
BERNICE KRAMER, 97, of Bloomfield
