Father and son dentists Jason and Jeffrey Ingber run the Metropolitan
Dental Centers in Waterford and Pontiac. The business has been a mainstay
in both communities for about 40 years.

A
fter Jeff Ingber gradu-
ated from the University
of Wisconsin in 1966, he
immediately entered the University
of Detroit Dental School where he
became active in the Jewish dental fra-
ternity, Alpha Omega and was named
president of the school chapter.
When he gained his license in 1970,
he began his private practice by team-
ing up with another dentist, and soon
became his partner. Following his
enterprising nature, Ingber aimed at
building a larger, more comprehensive
practice instead of simply providing
dental care and growing his patient
base.
He wanted to build a staff of
top-flight specialists to better serve
patients in-house. He began with an
orthodontist and periodontist, and as
the business grew, he was able to add
more professionals.
Today, the two Metropolitan Dental
Centers (MDC) in Waterford and
Pontiac have eight dentists on staff,
and Ingber says he plans to add a few
more. These specialists cover a wide
range of dental practices, including
periodontics, orthodontics, endodon-
tics, cosmetic dentistry, neuromuscu-
lar dentistry and oral surgery.
When Jeff's son, Jason, entered
the dental school at University of
Michigan in Ann Arbor, after earning
an undergraduate degree there, he also
joined Alpha Omega and followed his
father's footsteps and volunteered for
no less than 20 organizations, includ-
ing Project Chessed, a referral network
that coordinates access to dental care
for uninsured Jewish adults.
After graduation from dental school,
Jason joined MDC, bringing a father-
and-son approach to the practice and
earning plaudits from the patient
community. In 2010, he was voted one
of the top dentists in Oakland County
by Oakland Press readers and was also
named one of the top dentists by his
peers.
"We kind of feed off one another:'
Jeff said. "I enjoy doing certain things
that Jason doesn't like doing, and he
elects to do procedures that I don't
enjoy. It gives a family feel to the busi-
ness."
Of the two MDC offices, the Pontiac
office accepts large numbers of indi-
gent and Medicaid recipients, and
provides a high level of quality care,
which Jeff Ingber considers as a way to
give back to the community. He also
has served on the teaching staff of the
residency program at St. Joseph Mercy
Hospital Oakland for many years.
Since its early days in the 1970s,
MDC has treated more than 40,000
patients and is considered one of the
largest dental practices in Michigan,
in the top 3 to 5 percent in size. The
Waterford location comprises 16
patient treatment rooms (the Pontiac
