office has 10), and a Metro Imaging
Center that boasts a new iCAT 3D
cone beam-scanning device that
provides three-dimensional imag-
ing of the head and neck.

High-Tech Diagnostics
With the new scanner, the Metro
Imaging Center is probably the
only dental office in Michigan that
offers neuromuscular orthodontics
and neuromuscular dentures from
computer-generated prostheses
— offering a comfort level never
before available.
"Today, orthodontics is more
than just a pretty smile Jeff Ingber
said. "Many people still are unaware
that chronic, persistent headaches
can be caused by a temporal man-
dibular joint (TMJ) that is out-of-
alignment. Once an adjustment
has been made for this disorder,
the headaches suddenly disappear.
The same thing with neck and back
pain, clicking and popping in jaw
joints, and clenching or grinding of
Jason explained further. "The
computer software allows us to
see which facial muscles might be
constricted. In many cases, these
are the cause of the headaches and
other pains that patients are expe-
riencing but no one had yet been
able to find out the reason:'
The treatment of sleep apnea is
also possible with the computer's
help. Instead of the usual reliance
on an air pump CPAP machine to
keep palatal airways from closing
during sleep, specialists at MDC
measure, design and fabricate a
custom orthotic with a palatal lift
that the patient fits onto the upper
and lower teeth while sleeping to
keep the back of the airways open.
Another promising orthotic is
the Pure Power Mouthguard (PPM),
a proprietary custom-fitted device
that is only offered through a net-
work of PPM-certified dentists,
of which MDC is one. Designed
for professional athletes, the PPM
brings the jaw into an alignment
position optimized for athletic
performance — balance, range of
motion, flexibility, explosive power
and strength.
Jeff is active at Temple Israel
and has been president of the
Brotherhood, while Jason is cur-
rently a member of Temple Shir
Shalom. After more than 40 years
in the business, when Jeff is asked
about retirement — even though
Jason is slated to take the helm of
MDC — he demurs, "Oh, I don't
know. I enjoy the day-to-day work.
I'll probably be here forevet"
