Giles, associate director of JSL and
Fleischman Residence administrator.
"These are the cars they rode on their
first date or even drove off on their
honeymoon."
There aren't too many "gear-heads"
among the spectator residents, but
one is Harold Wade, 89, who has lived
at Fleischman for eight years. He
learned to be an engineer in the U.S.
Air Force during World War II, fixing
plane engines, then spent eight years
as a Ford engineer and 25 years at the
Curtiss-Wright Corp. in New Jersey.
"I love our dream cruise; it's one of
the best programs we have here," he
said. "I could easily still put together
one of those car engines." Wade once
owned five Mustangs at the same
time and even owned an infamous
Ford Edsel for a year.

Say-On Major Sponsor
Just as this year's 17th annual
Woodward Dream Cruise (Aug.
20) has a presenting sponsor in
Chevrolet, marking its 100th anni-
versary, the Senior Cruise has its
own major sponsor. Say-On Drugs,
together with Say-On LTC (long-term
care pharmacy) is covering all of
the expenses, much to the delight of
Antin and the residents.
"Say-On really stepped up to give
us a lift:' she said. "It's their way of
giving back to the community."
This year's Senior Dream Cruise
coincides with a new JSL program
called Michigan Jubilee, Aug. 15-19,
being celebrated at both the West
Bloomfield and Oak Park JSL campus-
es. The event will include a classic car
display (but not cruise) in Oak Park
Monday, plus a Detroit Tigers salute,
Michigan travel information, the
state's favorite foods, musicians, farm
animals and fun events for children.
"We want the community to come
together and take pride in our great
state, so we'll have Michigan-themed
events all week," said Antin.
The spirit of the Senior Dream
Cruise echoes the remarks of Nancy
Siegel Heinrich of Royal Oak, when
she recently became the new presi-
dent of JSL: "We must remember
that JSL is caring for our parents and
grandparents, the same people who
built this community through the
years and made it what it is today." P1
