BERTHA GROSS, 89, died June 10,
2011, in Netanya, Israel, where she had
lived since 1970.
She was born Dec. 24, 1921, in the
small Jewish farming settlement of
Edenbridge, Saskatchewan. She gradu-
ated from University of Iowa and in
1946 moved to Detroit, where she mar-
ried Marcus Nodel. Bertha had two
children, Richard and Jerry Nodel.
When Marcus died in 1957, she
began working at Temple Israel and
worked there as its bookkeeper until
1970 when, along with her second
husband, Lou Gross, and her son Jerry,
made aliyah to Israel.
Mrs. Gross was active in Hadassah,
Pioneer Women, Workmen's Circle,
March of Dimes and in Israel was
a member of the Association of
Americans and Canadians in Israel,
where she helped with community
activities.
She is survived by her brother, Alex
Shore of Columbus, Ohio; her sons,
Richard (Pam) Nodel of Orchard Lake,
Jerry (Dorit) Nodel of Netanya, Israel;
grandchildren, Jordan Nodel of New
York, N.Y., Casey Nodel of Chicago, Ill.,
Mordachai (Rivka) Nodel, Efrat (Amin)
Berner, Avigail (Tzar) Moshe; seven
great-grandchildren, all of Israel.

JOSEPH S. HOOVER, 83, died in his
home in Fort Myers, Fla.
He had been long-time resident of
Trenton, Mich. He was an employee
of the Joseph Frenkel Co. for 31 years
and Supreme Distributors for 10 years
before going on his own. He loved the
diverting business.
Mr. Hoover is survived by his wife
of 44 years, Charlene; daughters,
Karen, Kathy, Karla.
The service will be at 10 a.m. on
Friday, June 24, at the Michigan
Memorial Park Funeral Home in
New Boston, Mich. Interment at the
Michigan Memorial Cemetery.
