20 lunch and learn is, "Seeking the
Reasons for Mitzvot: Pros and Cons:'

A native Detroiter, Roth is the Louis
Finkelstein Professor of Talmud and
Jewish Law at the Jewish Theological
Seminary (JTS). He also serves as the
chair of the Department of Hebrew
Language and as rosh yeshivah (head
of school) of the Conservative Yeshiva
in Jerusalem.
Roth received a bachelor's degree
from Wayne State University in
Detroit. He received his master's
degree at JTS, where he was ordained
in 1968. That same year, he was
appointed to the faculty of JTS, as he
continued his studies toward a Ph.D.
in Talmud, which he received in 1973.
Cost for the lunch and learn is $10,
which includes Udipi's daily vegetar-
ian lunch buffet and a cold beverage.
