and moved to Detroit in 1922. A respected
officer, physician and professor he was
also a beloved husband, father, grandfa-
ther and great-grandfather. In life and at
the end of his life, he demonstrated kind-
ness, humor, reason, gratitude and love.
Mr. Gorelick was predeceased by his
darling wife of 67 years, the former Bess
Rosenthal. He is remembered with great
love by his son and daughter-in-law,
Stephen and Janis Gorelick; daughter
and son-in-law, Sharon and Ronald Rose;
grandchildren, Marc and Carol Gorelick,
Alexandra Rose, Jonathan and Lidia Rose,
Eric Levin and fiancée, Colleen Yacka,
Linde Levin and fiancé Bryan Hutson;
great-granddaughters, Erin and Maya
Gorelick.

PAULINE "PAT" GORMAN, 80, of
Henderson, Nev., formerly of Detroit, died
Feb. 17, 2011.
Her greatest joy was spending time with
family and friends, and doting on her
grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Scott

Jodi Fox; grandchildren, Noah and Max
Gorman, Kevin Altman, and Zachary and
Alexis Fox.
Mrs. Gorman was the beloved wife of
the late Manuel Gorman.

DAVID HENRY KOST,
98, beloved husband,
father, grand- and great-
grandfather, died peace-
fully at home in Seattle,
Sept. 12, 2010.

Kostonovich in 1912
Kost
in Slutsk, Russia, he
immigrated to the U.S.
at the age of 9. Six months after marrying
Ida Rosenbaum, he entered the U.S. Army,
serving as captain in the medical corps
from 1942-46, after which he resided in
Detroit.
There he raised his family and was an
excellent, dedicated dentist for 45 years,
before retiring with his wife to Deerfield
Beach, Fla. Together they had 29 wonder-
ful years there at Century Village. They
relocated to Seattle in 2006, to be near
their daughter and granddaughter.
Mr. Kosts' loves, after family and friends,
included travel, culture, philosophy, histo-
ry, opera. While not religious, he honored
his Jewish cultural heritage and was com-
mitted to the values of progressive politics,
peace and justice. He kept healthy with
daily walks and exercise.
He was a mentch. "The most important
thing:' he said, "is to be considerate of
EVERYONE." In his last years, his serious-
ness turned more to playfulness. He loved
to make others laugh. He always expressed
appreciation for even the smallest efforts
of others, and complimented people at
every opportunity.
He approached death with acceptance
and humor and gratitude for every
moment. Knowing his end was near, he
declared, "I'm ready for... ANYTHING:'
He was preceded in death by his daugh-
ter, Eleanor. He is survived by Ida, his wife
of 68 years; daughter, D'vorah (Donna);
granddaughter, Shira, and her husband,
Matthew Brewer; great-grandson, Rafael
Kost Brewer.
HELEN BARBARA (TAPPER)
LANDGARTEN, born on March 4, 1921,
in Detroit, died unexpectedly on Feb. 23,
2011, in Los Angeles.
She was an artist, author and lecturer. A
pioneer in the field of art psychotherapy,
she founded the Department of Clinical
Art Psychotherapy at Cedars-Sinai Medical
Center and Immaculate Heart College,
which then moved to Loyola Marymount
University.
Mrs .Landgarten is survived by her chil-
dren, Aleda and Marc; nieces and nephews
and their families, many friends, young
and old.
She was the wife of the late Nathan
Landgarten.
