of her life, and of his late great-grand-
parents Allen Kaftan and Evelyn Kogan,
Toba and Bert Smokier and Florence
and Brooks Barron.

Hurwitz will be called
to the Torah as a bar
mitzvah on Saturday,
Febr. 5, at Temple
Emanu El in Oak
Park. He is the son of
Harvey and Ruth, big
Hurwitz
brother of Eli and the
grandson of Charlotte
Corner. Sam is also the grandson of the
late Phillip Corner and the late Sam
and the late Jeannette Hurwitz.
Sam is a seventh-grader at Norup
International School in Oak Park.
His mitzvah project, Birdhouses for
Brovary, raised money for a struggling
Jewish community in the Ukraine; Sam
and his family painted themed bird-
houses and sold them, generating more
than $600.

Temple Israel in
West Bloomfield. His grandparents are
MaryAnn and Allan Harrell and the
late Sheila and the late Jacob Kirsch.
Jacob is a student at Oak Valley
Middle School in Commerce Township.
Donating his time to Yad Ezra in
Berkley was the mitzvah project he felt
was the most meaningful.

will be called to the
Torah as a bat mitz-
vah on Saturday, Feb.
5, at B'nai Israel
Synagogue in West
Bloomfield. She is the
Saperstein
daughter of Susan
Knoppow and David
Saperstein and the sister of Josh and
Sammy. Miriam's proud grandparents
are Sharon and Jerry Knoppow and
Lynda and Stanley Saperstein.
Miriam is in the seventh grade at
Hillel Day School of Metropolitan
Detroit in Farmington Hills. For her
mitzvah project, she volunteered at the
Prentis and Teitel senior apartments in
Oak Park, where she helped with movie
nights, pizza parties and other activi-
ties.
Jake Harrison
Schwartz will lead
the congregation of
Temple Israel in West
Bloomfield Saturday,
Feb. 5, as he celebrates
his bar mitzvah. He
is the son of Lisa and
Schwartz
Paul Schwartz of West
Bloomfield and the
brother of Alex and Dylan. His proud
grandparents are Faye Schwartz and
Kaye and Stan Miller. He is also the
grandson of the late Arthur Schwartz
and the great-grandson of the late
Estelle Moggel.
Jake attends Cranbrook Middle
School in Bloomfield Hills. His most
meaningful mitzvah project was col-
lecting sports equipment for needy
children through Sports Gift.

Mazel Tov! announcements are welcomed for members of the Jewish
community. Anniversaries, engagements and weddings with a photo
(preferably color) can appear at a cost of $18 each. Births are $10. There is
no charge for bar/bat mitzvahs or for special birthdays starting at the 90th.

Beare-Kahn
isa and Jeffrey Beare and Dee Dee and
Douglas Kahn, all of Scottsdale, Ariz., are
thrilled to announce the engagement of
their children Abby Alec Beare and Daniel Eric
Kahn.
Abby graduated from Arizona State University
and is a kindergarten teacher in Phoenix. Danny
graduated from Western Michigan University and
is a commercial real estate broker in Phoenix.
Abby, formerly from Farmington Hills, and Danny,
formerly from West Bloomfield, met and live in
Phoenix.
The Beares and Kahns look forward to a Labor
Day weekend celebration in Scottsdale with family
and friends.
